It doesn't seem melancholy to me, though there is a touch of loneliness... it feels hopeful. That tree has spent its entire existence fighting the elements to survive, it may have bent, but it hasn't broken yet. This picture is incredibly beautiful. Your a very tallented photographer, congratulations on the DD, this peice deserves it.
