Description
It's not, I s'pose, what one should call finished, but at any rate I believe I am finished with it. Been doing a lot more work lately, keeping me kinda busy, and to tell you honest I'm kinda tired of fight scenes for now, at least at home. I'm getting to do more of this sort of thing in the course of every-day work, though, which is a good thing. So I took all the bits remaining and stitched 'em together and added some dinglies and whanots that are available in the latest build of Easytoon that I've located, version 1.9.5
Some guys out there hacked the older version and cleaned it up a little, added proper text and a few more goodies (like a text tool) and set it loose. It's still just a glorified flipbook animation program, but now it's a glorified flipbook program with bolder icons. It's still free, and you can still find it with a little effort in Google.
So g'wan and search around for it. Even the 1.9.1 build (which is a little easier to find) is nicer than the version I've been using for the past couple years.
Soooo... yeah. Less fightin' action for me. Still plenty of stuff to animate, though.

Yes? There's plenty more impressive examples than this out there. It's basically a glorified flipbook-maker, which is useful in that it forces you to rely on the most basic animation skills. Very few tricks you can do with Easytoon, it's pretty much just frame-by-frame all the way.

Watch a lot, practice a lot. Rinse and repeat on a daily basis for the rest of your career.
Pretty simple, really.

It's Easytoon. Sometimes called EZToon.
It's in the text at the end, in the Comments, and on the thumbnail. Last I checked, it's shareware so it doesn't take much effort to find.

I'm taking an animation class and I'll have to give you an retrospective pat on the back because I still love this, 5 years later.
I'm studying the crap out of it, so just dropping by to thank you for allowing us to download it.
You're awesome, you know that?

Thanks!
I'm of the mind that it's a bit fast, it could use some additional easing around the actions to help the pace, but overall it's still a fun piece. I'm glad to hear it's helping your studies!

Love the full length title. Isn't it odd how areas in books and movies are quite often well-lit when they need to be?

My favorite is anyplace that's underground, like your classic trope dungeon. It gets even wackier if there's torches and such along the walls... like, who lights those? Who replaces them? Why isn't there more smoke and scorching?
It;s easy enough to avert with luminescent fungi or other pseudo-magical handwaves, but when there's nothing to indicate the light source it makes my eyes roll so hard that they turn inside out and frighten small children.

Not to mention if there were torches spaced throughout an abandoned cave, wouldn't it be so full of smoke and such that anybody who entered would die nearly within minutes?
And I guess you could go for the "They're magical torches that don't smoke or extinguish and stop asking questions or bad things will happen to you" response.
-notices on/off switch on bottom of random cave torch- Ohhh..... derp.

It makes me feel . . . small . . . *sniffles* I wana animate like that!!!
Do you use a tablet?

Yep, I went full digital about three years ago. But I've been animating for about 9 years, and before I went to tablets it was just pencils and paper and lightboxes. That methodology still influences my work, and probably always will.

If this is on 25fps, does that mean you set it at "1" on EasyToon?
Sorry, EasyToon confuses me when it comes to frame rates.

Inkthinker In reply to roronora [2008-11-15 22:19:14 +0000 UTC]
"8".
gif animations run in increments of 100. 25 fps would come out to a setting of "4", but I usually set things to "8" so that I've got my frames running in twos, except for the occasional frame I keep at ones (4) or stretch to three (12).

roronora In reply to Inkthinker [2008-11-15 22:44:19 +0000 UTC]
Oh I see, so when it's set at "8" it runs at 12 fps?

Inkthinker In reply to roronora [2008-11-16 07:48:39 +0000 UTC]
12.5, but yeah... the equivalent of 25fps in twos. 24fps is film, 30fps is NTSC, and 25fps is PAL, so it's the closest you're likely to get when dealing with something which defers to increments of 100 by design.

Thanks for the info.
Oh and if you have the time (since you're a proffessional animator), could you critique my "Fatality" animation plz? People say it looks good, but it's still not quite "there" yet if you know what I mean...

Flippin' amazing. Just don't understand how the guy (the one without a hat) got impaled by his own spear. The animation is awesome, the angles are terrific and very well done. Awesome man, good job.

If you mean the last fellow, he got shafted through the brainpan by the duelist's rapier. It's meant to be as fast as it can be and still be legible, but I sometimes think I tipped over the side on that end.

Well, your art really is dynamic. You really put lots of detail into your animation, and thanks to my OCD, I can't help but watch the same clip over and over, trying to pick up as much as possible. I've been lavishing this for the past half our. Thanks!

loved how the scene rotates
it's too fast for me though. i mean i appreciated it more when i see the other guys getting hacked in the slow-mo downloading stage. rather than ... eh? they're dead??? how? - finished download state.
i didn't make sense there did i? but fav worthy nonetheless

No, I know what you mean... on some browsers, as the frames load, the effect is sort of like watching it at half-speed. It can be a fun way to check out the individual drawings before the persistence of motion illusion kicks in.
Striking with blinding speed was part of the initial germ, but I know what you mean... it's no good if the action is too hard to follow. I'll keep at it until I reach a good medium, though.

Hmm I just watched it again and I still think it's very good but It's also very "blurred" and sometimes I couldn't see what happened. Maybe you did that on purpose to enchance the feel of intensity in battle but it confused me a bit
but great movements and all!
