Description
Editing this commentary down to the basics. I've brought this up again because it serves as the basis for a segement of animation in HTF's latest short animated film, Kumo Kuro. Keep an eye out for it.-EDIT- Because of the way DA handled GIF animations back when this was uploaded, you must Download the file (which just opens it in a new browser window) to see the animation. Sorry 'bout that.
At any rate, I'm fairly satisfied with this segment, enough to call it finished. Let me know if you think there's anything that still needs attention (besides the very opening cut... I know, it's fast, but I kinda like it that way for now).
Total time taken for this was about 12-16 hours of solid work... I wasn't keeping super-close track, but I busted out about 3-4 hours a night over 4 nights to get to this point. All Easytoon and 4x5 tablet.

Awesome animation! wish I could animate that cool, actually I can't, I've never had the patience, that's why I draw comics instead lol

I actually find that I need more patience to draw comics. Freaky, huh?

I love your cartoons. I've been watching the progress on this one.
And I thought I'd let you know how to move things out of scraps.
Click on edit deviation, then choose category and section. Then you choose your categories like you were submitting a new one, and when you're done, it's moved into your gallery... unless you chose scraps as the category . Of course.. with DA's infamous lag, it may take awhile to actually show up there.

I'll have to try that sometime... but then this one would be lost, since there's no way I know of to merge Deviations (is there?).
I don't think anyone's gonna miss the Scrap version much, though.

I didn't mean "12 hours, that's a lot!"... I meant "in twelve hours I wouln't manage to do a walk loop with a stick character"... (ok that's not true, still I find your work amazing, and I think twelve hours is fast for such animation quality and smoothness!)

Whoops, forgot to add that.
'Bout... 14 hours? Give or take an hour. 3-4 hours a night, 4 nights.

And all those motions just came up out of your head for a fight sequence? That's not something just anyone can do.. sheesh. Haha. Imagining scenes is one thing, making them look like they are physically possible is a whole different story, and yet you've done that, purely from imagination. Phenomenal.

Watch a lot of fight movies. Then watch a lot of fight animation. Then animate for a few years most every day. S'all it takes...
It's really not as hard as it looks. You just gotta let one move flow into the next... I generally don't think too far ahead on this (which is how it kinda got outta hand), just concentrate on animating the move I'm on, while thinking about the next one, and so on.

Don't skimp on tweens if you're looking to smooth things out... there's no shortcuts that come without cost. Other than that... ummm... study lots? I observe a lot, even when watching TV, looking at things with an eye as to how I'd represent them. And I'm always on the lookout for interesting video clips online of things that I might animate at some point... the internet is a vast resource of interesting video.
And of course, it's important to work on illustration skills as well... if you animate in 2D, that means you've got to wear two hats; animator AND illustrator. Every frame is an illustration... keys are built on what you want to see happen, and tweens are built based on what MUST happen in order to move from key to key.
I hope that's a little helpful, anyhow. If I keep going I'll slip into full-blown lecture mode.

All done in Easytoon... I use it a lot for practice animation like this. It's freeware, and its limitations encourage stronger animation skills.

Not off the top of my head... a lot of people work in Flash, and do some excellent things with that.
