Awesome work
can I ask what software do you use for making it?

Sure! It's freeware called EasyToon. I don't know what version they're up to, but it's essentially a little black and white pixel flip book program.
Download yourself and have a copy : )

If I look upon retrospect, I think your past animation work was better than your sequential. Though, you've improved quite significantly in the illustrative since then. Do you still animate or have you gotten rusty?

holy crap this is amazing how long did it take you to animate this? and would you ever do animation shorts like these for commissions? (extremely silly question i know but hey...doesn't hurt to try right? )

Thanks. I don't quite remember how long it took
but animated commissions would be pretty expensive LOL. There's a WHOOOOOOOLE lot of work that has to go into these.

hey there. Yeah, I think easytoon is the perfect program to start in. It's great for quick animations * or longer ones if you feel up for it * and stretching your creative muscles.
If you need any tips or pointers, feel free to ask any time, man : )

I usually like to draw on 300x300
i feel it gives me a lot of space to work with, but it doesn't lag on me

I-I just wanted to express how much I admire your animations and your design work oh my GOD.
THE FLUIDITY
THE MOTION
THE CONSISTENCY
if only all anime was this well done aughh, this is so much better than a lot I've seen--just LOOKING at this makes me want to animate something (and as I typed that my Easytoon download finished wooOOOoo). I love it when lani hops into the air and does that ball-like spin, and the moment of impact when she lands a kick! Their fighting is so well done I feel like my brain is going to explode watching them go at it again and again...ashjf
but yeah! I wanted to thank you for sharing your work with us it's an inspiration.
if it's okay to ask, when you make these do you draw out the frames one by one(?) on the canvas? or use keyframes and draw the inbetweens, or maybe something different altogether?
and I was also curious if you've ever consulted references for sequences like these?

OverlordJC In reply to tofuburgers [2009-07-13 04:38:12 +0000 UTC]
Wow, i'm very flattered by your comment : D I dun think i deserve half of those words, but i'll try and answer your questions best i can.
When i make them, yeah, i do them frame by frame one after another * usually i can actually picture in my mind exactly how the scene will look and what i want - and i get those very same results. It is recommended that you make a story board to get all of your ideas out, though - You know, so you dont' lose that great vision you have over time. I have rarely used a tween ( i consider it cheating : P )
As for the second part of your question - uh uh, i don't like looking up reference for a scene at all, that takes all the fun out of creating it, because someone's already done the work for you. No real challenge, y'know?
I hope i was able to answer some of your questions, and thank you so much for the kind words : )
