Good Morning, Ladies & Gentlemen & All The Ships At Sea~
Here's a bit of something I did to pay tribute to that ravishing rubberhose madam & black and white beauty herself, Max Fleischer's Betty Boop. I had drew her from her first appearance in the cartoon, Dizzy Dishes, in 1930 when she was originally drawn or inked as dog to her modern day appearance. I kind of did this for a bit of practice and to come up with an idea for a piece for her 80th anniversary, which was this past Sunday. I'm trying to figure out what else I should draw in the background of this one.

You probably know this, but Fleischer Studios is still a Company Today. Refounded in the 1970's by Max's son Richard Fleischer.Β

I've heard that it was around but I didn't really think that they were still active. The company is basically a historical monument to art or at least one of them. I would really love to see them you make more films and shorts. I remember that they were going to be somewhat involved in the Popeye movie that Sony was going to make.

I have a couple of DVDs that have dozens of old cartoons on them. Oddly enough, my toddler is nuts over Betty Boop and Popeye. He'll come in requesting them as "Oop Opp" or "Pop Pie".

It's her 80th birthday today? Neat-o
I watched nearly all of Betty Boop's appearances, and it was great (even those Post-Code era shorts)... though, Poodle Betty just looks so weird and twisted in a not-good sort of way.

It was her 80th birthday on August 9th actually. I actually love her girl dog appearance in the later shorts myself. I'm iffy on the first appearance myself honestly but I loved the concept Β Β

In a way, it better for her to be a dog, since hardly anyone loves Β inter-species romance... just the design doesn't strike me as "attractive."

Of course. I don't really mind the inter-species stuff honestly. I kinda see it as a Roger Rabbit logic kinda thing. Two characters are drawn as different species but they're really the same species... toons.

You know what would've been great.....If you do Bimbo with his incarnations and maybe Betty in a scene based on either "Snow White" or "Swing, You Sinner."
