Description 5inx5in oil paint on gesso board.

I've been working with an amazing artist:

In exchange for free lessons from him, I've promised to teach any other artists anything I can help them with. I think that is an amazing deal.

This is a new color palette and technique for me. I will be doing lots of little studies.

Let me know what you think.

I love this piece and your art as a whole.
There is a sweet innocence that you portray in the young ladies, that is most refreshing. They haven't quite made there way out into the world and there is a bit of sadness around them. But the delicate skin tones show the purest of innocence.

I Love William Adolphe Bouguereau art work! His women are always so beautiful. I don't know why Study of a Girl's Head never became one of his popular works because it's one of my favourites. You mached her face quite well and nice work with those oils.

DraggyVamp909 [2009-04-14 04:57:28 +0000 UTC]

Instant favorite. It's beautiful, and has an extreme softness to it. I can somehow picture the body to be in a Renaissance-style pose. Must be the oil paint you used, and the freshness of the girl's face. Great job.

she makes me think of a classical nude, even tho we can't see her body... it just seems that naked is writen on her forehead... well in my point of view

I was just thinking the same thing! It reminds me of Da Vinci, but with a slightly different style. No matter how you look at it, it's beautiful.

Wow, funny you should mention your only payment being helping other artists as payment to this person teaching you because just today I found out about DAcademy, and think it would help you do just that. : ) It's basically a club/chat room/group that has artist that do lectures in chat rooms and those that attend are assigned homework and participate in critique groups. Maybe you'd enjoy giving a lecture? Well, if you're interested, you can find more info on 's journal. : )

That aside though, I really like the colors used for this. There's something about her eyes though. This sort of cunning look that spells trouble >3

Wow this insanely reminds me of my friend Hanna but with a more mature look.
I love how to infused the colours to give her a distant beautiful feel and to be honest, I don't think you could have done any better.
Beautiful work here, you should be proud of yourself

kittyhina [2009-04-14 00:23:53 +0000 UTC]

That's just amazing.
The colors make her skin seem so smooth. I love the reds, especially.
Also, her expression seems to carry so much meaning, even if it's a hard one to figure out.
I've always wanted to try oil paints, but they're more expensive than acrylics or watercolors, not to mention there's the additional costs of stiff brushes (which I hear are essential for oil painting) and gesso. I don't think I'll try it right now, but I hope I will someday.

Gorgeous! Reminds me so much of traditional Renissance painters! the colors are splended, and the strokes are smooth while still having some characteristic marks. Amazing job!

Wow. Reminds me of The Mona Lisa only because of the idea that there is something behind that face almost impossible to figure out. She looks so beautiful, and the colours blow me away. Did you use a model? AGHHHHHHH!!!!! I wanna eat this!!!!
