If I remember correctly; Many assumed Spike would stay in his Young form eternally; and that's very depressing to think, even the possiblity

Better to say it implies rather than it proves. I'd really like to think that greed figures some way into their natural lifeycycle, though- maybe the flipside of greed is desire, and as they age and their desires change, such as the desire to help their friends, they grow in a way that reflects that.

I don't know about friends, Ember and Garble state that Dragons don't do friends.
But their desires changing could be a possibility.
But I am right in that the dragon we see in the episode is the first elderly dragon we've ever seen. Even Torch who is probably several thousand years old doesn't have any wrinkles. So this dragon we see must be really old.
