I felt like drawing something angsty
I relate to Randall a lot, because I'm a lot like him.
And there have been many times where I felt like this.
Like Randall, When I'm upset, I act like a jerk.
I admit it
And, if Randall's like me, he's competitive because he has self-esteam issues, and is insecure.
If you can't tell, he's looking at himself in his bathroom mirror, with shame. He's thinking about what a stupid, pathetic waste he is.
And yes. He's cutting himself with a razor blade

Remember kids!
Cutting is not a constructive way to deal with your feelings. In fact, it's just stupid and dangerous. Cutting yourself doesn't make your problems go away. Plus, it's habit-forming. Once you start, it's hard to stop.
If you are going through a difficult time in your life, talk to someone about it - maybe your parents or a professional therapist.
Or, you could always make angsty fanart.
I don't, and never have, cut myself.

Well... I am EXTREMELY competitive and get jealous VERY easily. And if I was in the situation Randall was in (being only a few points behind being #1, but getting absolutely NO praise or encouragement from my co-workers) It would drive me INSANE! I would probably want to hit Sulley in the head with a canister too
I also have a bit of a temper
And I like to kind of hide in the background, being all mysterious and watching everything and listening to all the conversations around me
I've also been described as being kind of crabby and sarcastic.
So... yeah. That's why. We have similar personality traits.

I guess it happens to everyone from time to time, and yeah--cutting yourself, or turning to things like drugs and alcohol... that would only make everything worse.

Actually, I really hadn't thought of some of the things like that, now that I look back on each situation on the movie, it was most likely to be true, and Sully got into it mostly because he started to grow fond of Boo and had the decency to properly get her back to where she back from before, while Mike wanted to "Use spoons, to dig a tunnel far away and release her into the wild" or "Use a catapult to send her away." TOO GREEK! XD
The funny thing with what you said is that all it takes is someone like you to point out the obvious things and with that, it becomes clear, good work on that. And I'm not trying to flatter you, I'm just saying that I am another person who had the decency and time and patience to read your paragraphs, that is all! ^^ lol.

I can't picture Randall cutting himself, although he probably does have other, less obvious potentially self-destructive habits, like driving very aggressively and putting himself in situations where someone is probably going to get in his face and provoke a fight, which of course we know HE is not going to back down from. Randall had many scars visible in the movie, and I have to wonder if Pixar designed them to purposefully make him look like either a fighter or a risk-taker. Most are on his face(a very nasty one runs through his left eyelid, down onto his cheek, so at some point he'd nearly lost an eye, and there are deep scars under his chin and on his sides.
Randall IS extremely competitive and extremely insecure, and that stems from self-esteem issues. Even his voice actor, Steve Buscemi, characterized him as such.

It's a description of a Type 3 Personality. Be sure to read it all the way through, and tell me if it doesn't describe Randall to a T. THEN, tell me which OTHER "Monsters, Inc." character it fits pretty well, too(hint: it's NOT Sulley).

Well, this is supposed to be Randall as a teenager.
I always imagined he was the rebelleous, emo type.
And those are the kind of teens who cut. So...yea.

Yeah, but...keep in mind that kids who do that have deep-running, profound emotional/mental issues, and that big companies like Monsters, Inc. require extensive background checks, and mental/emotional evaluations of potentional employees, especially for those who are applying for what would be considered high-risk positions, like Scarers. IF Randall had shown any evidence that he was emotionally or mentally unstable at that time, he would never have gotten a foot in the door of that company. THAT is one of the most compelling arguements against the claims that Randall was "always mean, always evil, always a trouble-maker" that are so often made by the haters. If that was the case, like I said, he never would have been hired in the first place and his resume' would have been "red-flagged" from the get-go. Clearly, bad past or not, Randall was a pretty stable individual who had no trouble getting along with others at the time he was hired, and his "fall from grace" occurred directly as a result of his work for Waternoose on the Scream Extractor, ironic since it was also something that he thought would put him in a better position, when it wound up destroying him, emotionally if not physically.
And yes, the other Type 3 guy is Mike. Most folks don't think about just how similar he and Randall actually are, personality-wise, the big difference being that Mike is a coward who has to hide behind his big, strong buddy(another example of how he uses Sulley), while Randall has the stones to take care of business by himself. Mike certainly has plenty of issues of his own, as well, and is definitely not a "healthy" Type 3, anymore than Randall is, by the movie's events, since he also resorts to possible murder, pre-meditated no less, to accomplish what HE wants. The bad thing is that Mike isn't scaly, so most fans are willing to overlook his indiscretion(and Sulley's)and hide behind the "self-defense" claim.

Actually, 1 in 8 teenagers (reportedly) have self-mutilated at SOME point.
Unfortunately, depression is common in teens, and self-injury is not uncommon
Most people who had issues as teenagers, grow up and live normal lives
To me, in my opinion, Randall just seemed like the type that had difficult teen-years
I agree that Randall wasn't always, or even known for being, a trouble-maker. He probably just kept to himself. A "that guy" who, after working there for years, doesn't talk to anyone
Mike is DEFINITELY similar to Randall. That's why Mike hates Randall - they clash.

Most folks think that the conflict is between Randall and SULLEY-that it was motivated purely by Randall's(understandable, in my opinion)"jealousy" of Sulley's success, which was probably due in no small part to some behind-the-scenes medling on Waternoose's part, but the REAL conflict was between Randall and MIKE. They are, as you just said, too much alike. That much is established right in the locker room scene, when Randall plays a rather nasty little practical joke on Mike, and Mike immediately retaliates by first claiming that he had "allergies"(to WHAT? Randall? Scaly monsters in general?), THEN tosses up what he knows is the biggest sore spot with Randall-his second-place status on the Scare Board. Sulley, meanwhile, is trying his best to stay out of it, looking at both of them the way a grown-up will look at a couple of bickering little kids. Even after Randall leaves, Mike keeps going on about Randall being a "creep" and how much he'd like to "let Sulley teach that guy a lesson". Mike's nastiness keeps up even after Randall has backed down, and that's what set the unpleasant tone later on the Scare Floor when Sulley offered to shake hands with Randall and Randall refused. If it had not been for Mike bringing up that Scare Record, I have a feeling things would have gone quite differently. Mike is very manipulate and controlling when it comes to Sulley, and most people don't realize THAT, either. They fail to notice how he controls who Sulley can talk to, or how much he can say, how he cuts off Sulley's words, how he calls him names, yet are so quick to point out RANDALL'S treatment of Fungus, just like they are so quick to point out what RANDALL wanted to do with Boo, yet ignore the things that MIKE suggested doing with her, which were even worse.
