Simon:
-rarely gets actual sleep – has invented a “dream machine” which stimulates REM cycles for periods of two hours at a time, so he can get more done

-was too busy to cut his hair and has grown accustomed to tying it back in a ponytail to keep it out of his face

-his absentmindedness with regard to the world outside his own research has increased ten-fold – he will often disappear down in the basement laboratories of the science departments for days on end, missing classes (perfect grades are something he no longer stresses quite so adamantly)

-his relationship with Jeanette is mostly intellectual – he respects her as a valued colleague , though she may not be too happy with this situation

-his extreme-introverted nature causes rifts between himself and others, and Alvin is often calling him on it, pushing his buttons and telling him he’s wasting the best years of his life
