They aren't actually all the pages in the book in order... but if you're interested and have the time, I can message you the whole story...
Only if you want to though.

You mean scanner-wise? I made sure I press my paintings down firmly on the scanner nowadays which seems to make them turn out lots better. Thanks to my friend Paul for that advice.
I also messed with the colours quite a lot on this one... the original isn't that good...

owl = love
(no one you know knows what owl tastes like)
My only problem is the colour scheme, the background is so dark. While it looks fine and dandy at the moment i worry that it won't work in print.

I am very worried my entire portfolio will come out as a dark and twisted LSD trip of the worst variety... not that I have any idea what that would be like...

I wish I had animals that were lab assistance! That be awesome, and fun. Also I agree with vforvegeance, I think there should be a lot more contraptions. At least fictitious one's, because real one's are kind of boring...
I feel silly for asking but are those volumetric flasks they're using? Jeez I wish all science was rainbow science! However, someone please correct me if I an wrong about the flasks.
I must say I love the background colors, as well as all the colors, and the composition! And on a note about composition, I was wondering how it would look with it angled on the other side of the table facing them. I imagine all that gas about, it would certainly give their faces a dramatic and spooky feel.

I tried several compositions in thumbnail form... this one was the best, trust me
And I have no idea what the flasks are called... It's been years since I did chemistry (I finished at AS level) and only remember what most things LOOK like rather than what they're called. Ant's brain melted from art... I DO however remember that the diagonal thing is called a precipitator. They rock.
As for fitting in more stuff... The page is already too busy I wan'ted to get a kinda copper furnace-type thing with pipes coming out of it in, but I couldn't get it to fit nicely on the thumbnails.
Thanks for the helpful comments dude! Really appreciated!

Hmm, your right with the page already being too busy. Alas it is still a lovely piece of work.
And your welcome! I'm always happy to help another artist in their quest to become better, even though at times I'm not always that helpful. Hahah.

such great illustrations, I love the quirky individual shapes each character has, I love how no corner on the page is left balnk, there is colour/pattern/detail everywhere. I especially love the colouring styu;le you have chosen, did you use acrylics, Im guessing? Your use of traditional medai makes the artwork much more charming and interesting to look at...great job
sorruy, I cant really give any critisism, I cant actually find anything to crit

Heehee! Thanks for the kind words! ^___^ Yes, it's acrylics... I usually put that in the image description but I was pretty short on time and wasn't bothered.

Tsk tsk Kateling... we shouldn't use the T word when describing a children's book!
If I had a hammer... i'd hammer in the morning... all over this land...
(I hope you know that song... i'm not just talking random syllables for once!!!)

vforvengeance [2007-04-07 04:29:24 +0000 UTC]
The background is more 'wizardry' than 'scienctific' as it looks like if there is a cauldron in front of them. I believe the brothers should be in lab coats and there should be more contraptions surrounding them so that it looks more like a lab... Hope you don't mind

The lab coats would have been a good idea, to demonstrate safety to kids actually, even though historically, I doubt many people wore lab coats at that time... though I can't be sure about that... Good point!
Wizardy is good however... they are trying to create a rainbow out of dark colours, which is obviously physically impossible, so some magic would have to be involved... They also visited a gathering of witches earlier on in the book, so it's not like it's the only fantastical bit in the book either...

Showcasing the brothers as mad scientists would be fun but you're right, it would loses its magic in it

I've just realised what :devsalty-shadow: was talking about when she mentioned a crow... she was referring to the black cat, and she's quite right, it looks exactly like a bird Will have to change that...
