You don't sounded satisfied with this piece, aren't you? Anyway, the tortoise is tougher than the cat anytime. I think you really screwed up with the blue background, am I right here? The puddle looks like it's frozen with outlines around it, am I right here? I'm not sure as I can't read your mind and I'm only speaking my mind. Maybe you should tell me how do you feel about this picture and point out if I'm wrong...

When I defend my work, it's cos i'm defending it, not cos i'm saying you're wrong. Illustrators are meant to do that. A piece of work can be rubbish, yet still be published if the illustrator can sell snow to eskimos...
I think the blue is slightly too pale for it's intended purpose, but otherwise fine.
The line around the puddles is too dark. I'll probably change that when i'm bothered. That could be what makes it look like ice to you... though I think the colouration inside it just looks cartoony.
One thing I will say though... when I ask for constructive criticism, don't assume the subject of the article conveys my personal opinion: it conveys THE ARTICLES opinion! ^__^ e.g. on the drinking when pregnant article
