Description
Artist's Training Grounds Alumni Group - Week 9 - Athletic Pony.Who is the most athletic pony? I've seen lots of Applejacks, lots of Rainbow Dash's, but clearly, Twilight has the highest strength score out of any of the ponies, on her level 22 Warlord (What, you think she'd be a wizard? Please, she does that everyday!). On paper, she can outrun Applejack and outjump Rainbow Dash... well, as long as she gets a good roll. And no using magic to tip the dice!
My pre-deadline submission, done day-of. I've been trying to do one to two pieces over the course of the week, and then on Sunday I've been trying to challenge myself to do a single piece in one day, from the brainstorm phase all the way to completion, as if the theme was only available for one day. I've found that the 'stress' (because there's really no stress involved) of that ticking clock can make some of the most creative pieces.
I'm really proud of how that D20 came out too. The character sheet is just a print screen I skewed out in front of Twilight. There's a few things on here that look really rushed and awful to me, and a few other things which I can't believe turned out as well as they did. I think the pose came out great, another attempt at a Pony sitting, some weird bottom leg stuff averted by tail placement, but otherwise I love how it looks. But her Eye looks off to me, possibly just due to my attempt at a profile shot that doesn't feature the second eye, or my continued attempts to direct where the eye is looking.
AND OH CELESTIA, nearly uploaded this without giving Twilight a Horn. How could I ever look her in the face again had I gone through with such an oversight!

oh twi,you must learn something when it comes to dice and the RNG (random number god) when you say something like that you WILL get screwed over. even if its not that roll, the RNG is a spiteful one and will make you pay for that in a most bloody/hilarious manner.

The RNG God is indeed the cruelest of deities...as any Fire Emblem player can attest

Any Nethack player can vouch for that as well...only Nethack is a game where the RNG is such a dick that it kills you on the first turn.

I can see it now: Fluttershy the Barbarian (by force), Pinkie the Wizard, Rarity the Bard, Applejack the Rogue, Twilight the Warlord, Rainbow Dash the Ranger and Spike the Dungeon Master.

Fluttershy rolls. Rolls damage. Kills target. Apologizes to every miniature as Spike pulls them off the board. "Oh, I'm so sorry Mr Kobold, I'll try to roll lower next time... Oh, why couldn't I play that pacifist Cleric like I wanted..."

Heh, it's why I love her! Twilight, the D&D Players Manual is not the kind of book one should look at when trying to learn how to run!

I could totally see her doing this in canon.

And Rainbow Dash just rolls her eyes. "Uh huh, sure Twilight... whatever."

That's because Dashie wouldn't be a munchkin, whereas Twi would have the whole game figured out and broken to her will.

Min/maxing, like a BOSS. Ah. I always play a character with like +20 in craft (alchemy). I'm NEVER short on thunderstones. xD

Oh, Twilight would definately be a Min-Maxer. If numbers are involved, she's surely worked to manipulate them into the most favorable outcome.

Oh dear, is that 4th Edition? Nice job on the d20. nerdy Twilight.

It is 4th Edition. It was actually my first exposure to D&D, I was dragged kicking and screaming to it by some friends. I was a card flopper my whole life (SWCCG, LotRTCG, and WoWTCG) and it took them awhile, but they got me into D&D.
I'm sure Twilight prefers 3.5, but she can't get her friends to play unless she uses the simplified 4th Ed. And thanks!

That is awesome! Though, interestingly, I'm not a terribly athletic person myself, but neither are my D&D characters. I tend to play spindly spellcasters or heavily armored brutes, so I'm either too weak or too overburdened to do much with athletics. Go figure.

Same here, I've played 3 different characters in D&D and all there are about as athletic as a bag of bricks. But dang do they ever have Charisma! *Flash Smile*

Oh my god that' so acurrate to her character it's terrifying. I wonder if there's going to be an episode in the next season that address role playing games? Probably not, but it'd still be cool.

It would definately be interesting to see the ponies role-playing, trying to act outside their normal characteristics, but still cutting to out-of-game stuff where they're behaving normally, trying to justify their characters actions. Watching your friends do really crazy/uncharacteristic stuff is one of the most fun things about RPG's (for me anyway)

That's exactly what I'm saying. Could you imagine Pinkie Pie as a Elven chaotic-Neutral Bard? There would be no survivors.

Invidlord In reply to Nun2artzy [2011-08-31 03:20:32 +0000 UTC]
I swear I've seen that somewhere, a D&D classic alignment chart plotting each pony, and I'm pretty sure Pinkie was indeed Chaotic-Neutral. But, I'm pretty sure Bard is the class Pinkie already has in the show. Sing songs to inspire, check. Sing songs to banish fear, check. Sing songs to calm tempers and end a war... well, 2 out of 3.

Boiled down, the entire game is just reading and math. She'd love it! I just have a feeling she'd be the rules lawyer at every session, while Pinkie Pie is the chaos bringer, and Rarity is the overenthusiastic role-player. Applejack and Rainbow Dash are all about the combat, and Fluttershy is hiding under the table because someone put a Dragon on the map.
