Description I really enjoyed making the last tutorial, so I decided to make another one and share with you a technique I learned not long ago.

If this tutorial helped you feel free to post links to your deviations made with the reversed lens, I'd love to see them

You wouldn't happen to know if this works with a Nikon D80 too would you? I'm new to photography & a little lost...

Oooh I love you for explaining the stacking thing! I have macro extension rings, not reverse ones, and it also gives a shallow DOF, but now I know how to do those sharp pictures!!!

Thank you for the tutorial~!! I tried doing this with my 18-55mm Canon lens, but I couldn't seem to get anything in focus at all. D: I was using a tripod, but I couldn't seem to manually focus to save my life! XD Is there any kind of a trick? Do I need to be several feet away for this to work? O_o

I really don't know.. try moving to and from the object.

Hmm, okay, thank you. lol, I'll have to try it again when it's not like 100 degrees outside. Ugh.

thank you so much! I have been shooting with reversed lens quite a long time ago, but after seeing this tutorial I think it will be more fun, especially to see some good results! amazing tut

Jenniferlover [2010-12-05 19:49:11 +0000 UTC]

Great tut! But I have one question - how do you change the focus when your camera is standing on the tripod? I tried this yesterday and I wouln't work without moving my tripod Ö

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ivadesign In reply to Jenniferlover [2010-12-05 20:35:58 +0000 UTC]

I only use the tripod for indoor shots, when I set everything up so I don't have to move the camera and then I just zoom in or out if necessary.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jenniferlover In reply to ivadesign [2010-12-05 20:52:04 +0000 UTC]

Oh you can zoom! I only use my 50mm f1.8 for reversed lens photos XD
So can't really control my focus

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ivadesign In reply to Jenniferlover [2010-12-05 21:51:51 +0000 UTC]

ooooh well then if it's not really necessary don't use the tripod, but if you really have to first set everything up and then shoot

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jenniferlover In reply to ivadesign [2010-12-06 11:13:36 +0000 UTC]

Ah ok! Finding the right focus to match everything together is very hard without a tripod but yeah, i'll try without it again

thanks!

Very good tutorial! I wish I'd seen this before, it would have saved so much time and trouble. I'd also like to add that moving the object itself is SO much easier than moving the camera(when it comes to still life, of course). I like the remote shooting thing.. never thought of it! I know about the video capture software, what's the name of the one you're using?

Anyway, thank you for making this (and the other editing ones, they're great), I learned something new from you now

ivadesign In reply to xSassyLassyx [2010-09-26 11:00:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I'm glad you learned something new but I'm not sure which video capture software you're talking about

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xSassyLassyx In reply to ivadesign [2010-09-26 19:58:23 +0000 UTC]

I'm talking about this [link]

It just records what it sees on the LCD screen as a video.. and the results are really good too!
Which software are you using to shoot?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ivadesign In reply to xSassyLassyx [2010-09-26 20:51:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I didn't even know something like that existed.. I use the Canon Utility software which came with my camera, but I don't use it to make videos just for remote shooting.

I know that.. But how do you made this connection? (:

ivadesign In reply to papayasweet [2010-09-16 19:36:41 +0000 UTC]

As far as I know, you can't.

oukeii, but thank you..
sadly, it doesn't work. ^^

ivadesign In reply to papayasweet [2010-09-16 21:37:08 +0000 UTC]

I just saw you message about the type of camera you have. That may be it, because I think I read somewhere that it doesn't work on all kinds of cameras, sorry.

papayasweet [2010-09-13 20:47:10 +0000 UTC]

I'm not understanding some things... ^^
when the objectiv is turned around, then the electronic's there, where the lens has been before? It would get dirty?
And, the connection between the body and the lens. When I hold the turned-around-objectiv for the body, which is on a tripod, where's then the connection?

I hope you will help me, and sorry. I'm not speaking very well English ._.
(:

ivadesign In reply to papayasweet [2010-09-13 20:56:17 +0000 UTC]

I guess the only thing you can do is pay attention so it doesn't get dirty. And when the lens is reversed there is no electronic connection with the body.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

papayasweet In reply to ivadesign [2010-09-14 11:51:53 +0000 UTC]

but, my body 'say' that there's no objectiv.. what are you doing then? is there the same by you or isn't it like that?

thanks (:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ivadesign In reply to papayasweet [2010-09-14 12:23:59 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it does that because there is no electronic connection. The only thing it affects is the ability to control aperture, everything else works fine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

papayasweet In reply to ivadesign [2010-09-15 14:53:23 +0000 UTC]

oukeii.. but, how can i do that? sorry for my few questions

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ivadesign In reply to papayasweet [2010-09-15 20:20:06 +0000 UTC]

You mean control the aperture? Well, since there is no electronic connection, you can't.

i've forgotten to say, that I've got a Nikon D5000 as body and as objectiv; Tamron 18-250 mm
(maybe, I could lean an objective 18-55 mm out by my father.. ^^ )
