Uh, which button is that? Becase I can't find it o.O
there is the little chain button and fx-button
but neither select white

'That' which?? I assume you mean the little icon at the bottom of the Channels window which looks like a sun. Look at the image I provided, it's there, circled in red.

yes, it'S very little in that picture and as I said, I don't have that button. What Photoshop version are you using? mybe they threw it out with the latest version 5 that I'm owning

Could be that. My version is quite old. But no worries. You can go to Select >> Colour Range and select the white and that'd be it. I guess it should work. Please tell me if it did!

But why would you want to record your actions?

You would want to record the actions that you use frequently. I give you an example: When I letter comics I have to give the dialog balloons certain effects. It'd be very tedious if I had to go to the layer's Blending Options and adjust all the settings I want every time. Imagine that for each page you have multiple dialogue balloons. So I click on my recorded action and Photoshop does it all for me in 2 seconds. Pretty nifty.
