Description
Full view pleaseThis is my tutorial on how to color on using Dodge and Burn tool. Lastly, I learned on coloring CG with the Dodge and Burn for the effect. Now, I use these entirely without any shadow and highlight colors except for the base color. This is my challenge on using this, so I made this tutorial to share my technique. Sorry if there's a grammar error for this, and I didn't put some procedures on hair.
You can also use this technique either on pen or a mouse (usually I use mouse).
Just download it to your PC. Use this for your personal reference. If you want to use for commercial, you have to get permission by me.
Enjoy! ^_^

Holy crap! I find that with a lot of pieces you can really tell when the person has used dodge and burn, because it looks really cheap and bad, but this! You made it look so good!
I AM NOT WORTHY *bows down to your talent*

I have a question, I recently finished colouring in a pic for someone [link] and they said I should use the dodge tool on it, how would I? Because I've never used that tool before.

This is a great tutorial. I get tired of people saying that the burn/dodge tool is useless. If it was useless it wouldn't be there. I also hear a lot of "it makes the picture look bad" to which I might reply "not if you use it right!" (I guess because a lot of beginners use it poorly or something? At least that's the impression others have been giving me.) Next time I get that, I might point them to that lovely picture you have at the bottom there.

Thanks, I always wondered how people painted their drawings so well. Ive never been good at adding any shading really, just using single tones for the most part. I will definately try to practice this. I knew about those tools but I never knew exactly how to use them.
Now all I gotta do is learn how to turn my scanned drawings into lineart. I hope you can teach that as well as you did this.

I got a few questions and if they are stupid, sorry, I'm retarded.
First, How did you change the colour of the lines so easily. Most tutorials say to use teh transparency lock but most of the lineart you have to put on multiply like you did.
Second, for the eyes, how did you do the iris around the pupil with keeping the pupil so crisp.
If the answers to some are you use a selection tool or something... I don't quite get it. What do you click to select those lines so well because all I really know how to use is the normal lasso, and you can't select things that well with them. And there's the polygonal one I think and that makes straight lines and I wanna know about how you do teh curved ones so well.
Sorry about that being so long, I'm kind of slow.

Thanks a lot for your tutorial. I've been trying to cg using many layers and blur and smudge, but the result was a dull looking picture, but by using the dodge and burn tool makes it more vibrant

One thing to note is that the lineart does not look that goof at the resolution you had it at. Changing the resolution would help it greatly.

Yes, but I use the shortcut key easier. The shortcut key is Ctrl + Backspace (background color) or Alt + Backspace (foreground color).

Wow! This tutorial really helped me understand the dodge and burn tools. I've been looking around deviantart for dodge/burn tool tutorials and came across this one. I'm tired of trying to pick the exact colors for shadow and highlights too, especially sense I suck at cging that way, so I think I'm going to just use the dodge/burn tool. I like this technique. ^ ^ Thank you for the tutorial!

I might try...thanks for the tutorial over it!
