Cool, I always wonder how under exposed the pictures should be an how over, like what ranges they should be in. the HDR I've tried comes out really grainy too I guess too high of an ISO>

Great tutorial man, can't wait to test it out!

Quick question, though. Could I download Photomatix Basic 1.2 and still be able to do this? I unfortunately just bought a new lens and have no money left for software (even though it's only $99 ).

Thanks for the tut, man!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackMcIntyre In reply to Spazoflife [2008-05-22 16:02:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah you can still do it with that. Though some version's leave watermarks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spazoflife In reply to JackMcIntyre [2008-05-23 10:23:04 +0000 UTC]

It claims freeware, but you never know.

Sweet deal, thanks again, man!

K00PA-TR00PA [2008-04-22 02:21:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a ton.

Can't the whole thing be done in Photomatix though? Or in PS? Is it necessary to have both?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackMcIntyre In reply to K00PA-TR00PA [2008-04-22 15:42:12 +0000 UTC]

It can all be done in photomatix, and it can all be done in Photoshop CS2 <<< Take note of the CS2.

However i did some tests generating a HDR of the same set of images using Photoshop and Photomatix and the Photoshop ones came out a bit better, thats why I used it in this example.

But - I've not got CS2 anymore. So all the HDR images about 2 weeks after this tutorial was released we're done totally in Photomatix.

Just depends which one you have, really.

K00PA-TR00PA In reply to JackMcIntyre [2008-04-22 20:08:40 +0000 UTC]

Why only CS2? CS3 has a automate -> HDR feature.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackMcIntyre In reply to K00PA-TR00PA [2008-04-22 20:32:10 +0000 UTC]

It does?

I didn't mention CS3 as I havn't used it yet, so I can't comment on what it does.

Extenderi [2007-11-10 21:18:06 +0000 UTC]

dude. that tutorial rocks! But ffs im using Photomatix trial so how i can get rid of those Photomatix watermark's :/?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackMcIntyre In reply to Extenderi [2007-11-10 22:48:53 +0000 UTC]

If I remember correctly, the Photomatix watermark appears in the bottom corner right? If it does, just take the picture before you do HDR, and make it 50 or so pixels taller, then put the picture at the top and leave a white gap at the bottom. The watermark then goes onto the white gap, then just crop your picture back.

I can't remember if thats Photomatix or not though. Tell me if that works, if not i've got a couple of ideas.

Extenderi In reply to JackMcIntyre [2007-11-10 22:53:16 +0000 UTC]

it appeared in the two place. Above left corner and in the middle. OK I'm gonna try this out.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JackMcIntyre In reply to Extenderi [2007-11-10 23:36:46 +0000 UTC]

Sounds silly, but you could always make a white gap in the center too. Just seperate the image into 2 halfs.

nurofinn In reply to JackMcIntyre [2007-08-11 12:12:42 +0000 UTC]

actually.. yeah, one question. After I convert the files into an HDR in photoshop and save it as a .hdr file and open it in photomatix, the shadows are coloured like, blue... or purple.. why? And even after I've processed the hdr in photomatix, a small amount of the colour in the shadow shows.
