Description
For the record yes I am stealing gameman5804's (thoughts in a nutshell) idea, but what's he going to do, steal one of my ideas and make his own version?ยAnyway, I've only seen a couple episodes of OK KO, mainly just random episodes that appear on tv and I have nothing better to do at the time, but from what I've seen it's a cute little show, if it came out during my younger years I probably would have loved the shit out of it. But then last month at SDCC they announced a crossover with good ol Sonic the Hedgehog, and I'm pretty sure nobody and I mean NOBODY saw coming, sure there were leaks before but did anyone actually believe them? Need less to say I was hyped despite not even seeing a whole lot of KO cause I have heard it's previous crossovers with stuff like Captain Planet and a bunch of different Cartoon Network shows were actually really good. So I was hoping it would be a massive love letter to my favorite game series, and for the most part it was.
Basically the plot revolves around some evil company in the show (I know it has a name but I'm too lazy to look up what it actually is) trying to capture Sonic, but they end up capturing KO's friends instead. So KO, Sonic, and Tails have to go and save the day. Now when I say this feels like modern Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, I mean it in both a figurative, and kinda literal way, as all of this feels like an episode that could have happened in AOSTH, with it's tone, villains, and sound effects. Heck they even do their own Sonic Sez segment at the very end.ย
Now let's talk about the fan service in this, cause holy shit there's a ton of them in it. I've already talked about the AOSTH stuff, but they even reference stuff like the comics, the Mario & Sonic olympic games, the ova, and a bunch of other stuff. Now I'm sure some cynical Sonic fans will try and turn all of this into a negative and claim that "Oh all these references are just a way to distract people from realizing this isn't serious like Sonic's supposed to be". However I don't think anyone can deny that the people behind this show truly do love the Sonic series, and want to show just how much in whatever way they can.
If I do have one major complaint with it, it's that the pacing is a bit too fast in the beginning. Like it starts off with KO meeting Sonic and Tails, and then 1 or 2 minutes later, they're off to save KO's friends without any real time to breathe. So I think the whole thing could have been a lot better if instead of being an 11 minute episode, it was a 22 minute special, with part A being about KO and Sonic just hanging out, and then part B could have been the rescue mission. I don't know if this is a common complaint with the other crossovers since I also heard they were only 11 minutes each, but for this one in particular, I think it could have really benefited from a longer run time.
Still overall I really enjoyed this episode, It probably won't convince me to go ahead and watch all the other OK KO episodes out there cause well I don't really watch a lot of tv in general, but I still had a fun time. I'd say go ahead and check it out if you can, unless of course you're one of those unfun grumpy chumps who hate anything relating to fun ... don't worry I'm only kidding ... unless ... am I doing that meme right?

And entitled ones too. They do seem to be entitled, the kinda people who thinks this is how the world should work, they think their opinions are the only things that matters and no one else's thoughts even matters and would never leave their victims alone until they get their way.

No offense buddy but although I blocked TrueSonicSpirit, I have to agree with him in one journal he wrote recently. Even if this was a parody of Sonic The Hedgehog (I think), I still find it scrappy. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who has enjoyed Sonic Boom and Sonic Mania Adventures.ย
The reason I hate this one is not because it's not "edgy" nor "serious" but because of how far it went with the humor to the point of being unfunny. I was especially kind of disappointed at how Sonic was portrayed. The way Sonic acted was anything BUT heroic, Hell he came across as a bully to Tails, his supposed best friend and while Tails was slightly better compared to the earlier versions where he would run like a coward and hide, he was still a side character here as if he hardly matters while Sonic takes all the credit for being a "hero" despite Tails doing so much more here than him. Not to mention why the hell is Master Emerald here? I thought the Master Emerald is supposed to be sitting on the island to keep the island afloat and not fall into the ocean.
Again I am repeating. Don't confuse my criticism with wanting Sonic to be "serious". I still love Sonic even if I am not that interested in him anymore but this show went too far with the "humor". I just hope this show is a spinoff because I will become pissed if it ends up being a part of the main canon.

"This isn't serious like Sonic is supposed to be"? Why is it that people think that way? Clement says otherwise, also, how come no one was asking for Mario to be serious like what they do with Sonic? This makes no sense. Not every single video game should be serious, and a game being silly is certainly not lazy writing, there's a reason why some games are huge hits because of their silliness, like Portal 2 and Kid Icarus Uprising.

Yeah, also, Dark Sonic 180 always claims that Sonic Mania is just a fan-hack. Well, here's another game based on another popular game franchise which is actually pretty much like Sonic Mania in terms of the game's release and how it was made, which is Black Mesa, the HD remake of Half-Life. Now, do you consider Black Mesa to be a fan-hack too?

If people claim itโs a fan hack, yet use that excuse just to bash on said game, then thatโs pathetic. Delusional Adventure tards use it because itโs not their precious Adventure style gameplay. These losers need to understand that quality doesnโt depend on their point of view. And Iโm not taking โIGN iS iGnOrAnT!!!โ As an answer. Same with TrueLoveHeart94. The game doesnโt suck because his precious Amy Rose isnโt in the game (playable)

It's not just the fan-hack thing, they also use the game's reused levels from other games as an excuse to bash the game too.

My guess is the Sonic trolls we all know and hate. I mean, Al Jerico did say many times that Sonic is meant to be about story and is meant to be serious and it becomes cringy if it shifts the focus on the comedy. Dark Sonic 180 did say multiple times that a game that uses comedy and a silly setting is just lazy writing and always points out the Sonic games as the only examples. Look, would Dark Sonic 180 rather have the next Kid Icarus game after Brawl to be the canceled Wii game by Factor 5? Many people hated the idea of that game (Although this is mainly due to the actual next Kid Icarus game we got in the end, being the 3DS game). I saw comments on the video about the canceled game and all of them I saw is people saying that they're glad that that game had been canceled and that they ended up getting the 3DS game by Sakurai, mainly because of how the Factor 5 game went into a more darker and more maturer tone compared to the orignal NES game which was a weird and silly game where it was mostly based on Greek Mythology and the characters have credit cards, one of the small enemies you face off are these flying Specknoses and features a wizard that curses you and turns you into a giant, walking eggplant, and yet, Factor 5 actually wanted to turn THIS into a serious, darker, mature, epic adventure? Yeah, do you see what I'm getting here? Same thing goes with Sonic, to quote Clement "Why would you take the concept of a blue hedgehog who runs through loop-de-loops and bounces on springs and collects rings and runs really, really fast and try to make it more super serious and intense?". These two trolls really don't know how the tone of games work and how they should be used.

Yeah, they treat their opinions and mindsets as if this is how it should work and every single person in the universe should all agree on them.

Also, turns out, I didn't actually say Clement's quote correctly and I couldn't change it now, the thing he said was "Why would you take this concept where a blue hedgehog bounces on springs and collects rings and runs really, really fast and try to make it super serious and intense?", but you do get what I'm saying about how the tone of games work and how they should be used, right?

This episode would've definitely be longer than 11 minutes. But ever since Christina Miller took over, cartoon network no longer made the episode lengths more than 11 minutes since
Believe it or not. Crossover Nexus was actually originally going to be 22 minutes, but Cartoon Network cut the runtime down to 11
and the same thing must've happened here, where the episode was originally pitched as a 22 minute episode but was cut down to 11

Considering the fact that Cartoon Network treats the show like Spongebob (but being even more obsessive) and that Teen Titans Go has quite a handful of 22 minute episodes
i wouldn't be surprised if that was the case

Well. i wouldn't really say that its the shows fault, Crossover Nexus was originally going to be 22 minutes. But cartoon network gave them the limit of 11, so it must've happened to the crew with this episode too
