Description Ok, this is something that I've been meaning to talk about for a long time. Basically a lot of Sonic fans have been using the sales as a means to push their opinions down on others. Like for example "Well both Adventure games sold really well, so that obvious means they're great games", or "Rise of Lyric is an awful game since it's the worst selling Sonic game." Look the sales of Sonic games are techinally facts, but that doesn't mean we can solely use that to declare what's right and wrong for the Sonic series. Yes the sales do show what people like and don't like, but fans use this as a way to "prove" that their opinion on a Sonic game is fact and that they know what's best for the series, whether it's postive or negative, and that everyone who thinks otherwise is ... well do I even need to say it? I'm sorry, but even if your opinion is on the majority side of either a well liked and good selling or well hated an poorly selling Sonic game, it still doesn't change the fact that your opinion is about as equal as everybody else no matter how many units the game sells. Bottomline, yes sales do show gamers interest, but that doesn't mean we can just use them to act like our opinions are superior to others and that the series should be exactly like how they want it.

I just randomly stumbled upon this

no offence but several of these meme opinion things you've made don't actually make sense and the statement you put into them can quite easily be deconstructed by either facts or just personal taste.

What he's trying to say is that it's fine to like and defend a game, but sales aren't an excuse to say that "This is better, quality wise."Β  Sales show interest to the company, but proper feedback is important to.Β  Rise of Lyric isn't awful because of the poor sales, it's awful because of how much of a boring and broken mess it is.Β  The Adventure Titles may have sold well, but they're far from perfect when you're playing them today.

You can't just use one or the other, and shove your mindset down another's throat.

I get what he's tryna say, I never said I didn't understand it
I agree with what you said and this one in particular I can agree with. Should've made it more clear that I meant some of his other uploads where the topic is more subjective and you can give a solid argument against it to disprove it entirely.

Looking at 06 once again, it's clear that critical reception was more dominant than the 2 million+ units it sold.Β  It's ok to like that game, and even I think it did somethings legitimately good outside of the soundtrack, but you can't ignore the true legacy it holds, the point where the series fell hard for the first time.

Reception matters just as much as sales.

Sonic 06 didn't sell over 2 million copies. I know that VGChartz says it did but VGChartz isn't a reliable source for sales. This link explains it:

Actually, Sonic 06 didn't even sell 1 million copies. Sega's official reports in 2007 state that 06 sold 550,000 units in the first quarter.

Then it sold an additional 320,000 copies in the following quarter.

In total, Sonic 06 only sold about 870,000 units.

This youtube link shows a reliable chart of the sales of Sonic games with Sega reports used as the source so you can see how 06's sales fare in comparison.

I still bet Lost World and Boom didn't sell very well either, for being exclusive to the Wii U.

Yeah, the Wii U didn't sell sell as much as the other eighth generation consoles. Those games likely would've had a higher chance of selling well if they were available on other consoles.

For my money, both games would've been completely different if they weren't exclusive to the Wii U.

Even Sonic Team considered Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) to be a failure, despite the high amount of sales.

And the Emoji Movie is considered terrible yet it made a huge Box Office.

Case in point.

Yet I doubt they'd make a sequel.Β Β
At least Sony apologized with Spiderverse.
