Description My very first tutorial. I hope this helps people create their own little miniature dragon sculptures. Since it now seems to be my addiction. Feedback is much appreciated. Let me know if I didn't detail enough.

If you use this tutorial please add a link in your submission and let me know, I'd love to see your version.

This is so cute! I really want to try it out but I have to buy some supplies and I'm broke at the moment.

Thanks for the comment. Sculpey is fun and fairly inexpensive.

Oh yes. I have a couple of packages of sculpey though it's all that icky, off white color. Wish I had some colored sculpey. Haha.

Sculpey can be painted with paint and sealed with ceramic sealant too.

RadioSeven In reply to JadedExistence [2010-08-06 00:14:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah but sometimes it's just so hard to get the paint into small places without getting it on other parts of the project. I really need to find some good sealant. The last kind I bought made all the things I put it on very sticky and the paint ended up wearing off anyway.

I've never been intersted in making a dragon, but this tutorial called out to me. And the little guy in the last picture was just too cute to resist. xD I'm gonna give this a try.

Maniac99 In reply to ??? [2010-01-11 01:23:02 +0000 UTC]

did you bake the dragon with the marble?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JadedExistence In reply to Maniac99 [2010-01-11 02:22:08 +0000 UTC]

yes, otherwise the marble wouldn't have fit in after baking.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!!! It really helps.

But as for attaching the wings. That part.. Hrmm.. How do you totally attach it? So that it wouldn't fall out or become loose? Do I have to press it against the body really hard?? Or some how rub on it so that it'd fuse to the body? ; Thanks for the help~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JadedExistence In reply to mindofxminus [2009-08-26 13:13:45 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome, glad you're enjoying it. As far as attaching the wings I use a toothpick to gently smooth the edges of the wings onto the body. You can always place new scales over the area where the wings attach if they distort during this process. There are other ways of attaching pieces like this but since I don't often touch the finished piece after it's baked I haven't yet had a problem with pieces falling off. Hope this helps!

I've always had a problem with attaching other parts to the main body. ;_;

Did you start with a wire skeleton, or just sculpted it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JadedExistence In reply to TheOneMarina [2009-05-29 20:06:25 +0000 UTC]

For something this small I usually just start by molding the clay into the shape I want. If I had made it slightly bigger I would have used an aluminum core. I don't use wire unless the sculpture is quite a bit bigger. Glad you like it

Awsome tutorial! I just started to use polymer clay, and I had no idea that you can use beads with it!

JadedExistence In reply to 87frozenhearts [2009-02-25 23:56:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! You can use polymer clay with just about anything that is oven proof, glass and metal are popular materials to add to sculptures.
