Page #16 and THE LAST of my mermaid drawing guide!^_^This is basically an example of a well done mermaid. However, this is just merely one example, as there are MANY excellent examples of well drawn mermaids! I would be happy to paste links to various websites and other deviant pages that show great mermaid art, but it's getting late, and I need to get some sleep. I'll be happy to post links on this tomorrow when I get the chance. Good luck and happy drawing everyone! I hope this mermaid guide serves you all well! ^_^

This looks pretty good and I am too not a fan of the ''Disney'' Mermaids.
I prefer more fish like merfolk. Anyway, keep it up with the good work.
What did you use to draw this by the way?

Thank you! ^_^
I just used regular pencil and paper.
I used Photoshop to edit and color it. I sued to color my drawings with colored pencils and then markers, as you can see in my gallery, but when I got tired of not being able to use markers to color characters whom I intended to have more fair or pale skin without making their skin look very pink or orange, I deciced to switch to digital coloring. However, if I ever find any markers than can come in fair skin shades, I'll probably go back to markers. lol

As a fan of merfolk, I had to check this out after thanking you for visiting my profile, and I have to say 'This is a well done mermaid?' She is completely flat, she has no dimension or life. Plus the shape of her face, barring the excuse of, 'oh that's how my merfolk look' isn't correct at all, it is like she has no bones. Plus, her hair, the movement doesn't seem to really match her pose, and neither does the actual hair, its too hard looking, it has no texture. I apologize if this comes off as too much of an attack, I'm certainly not the best at merfolk myself, but I couldn't help but voice my opinion after your comments on your own work and looking through the rest of this guide.
I'd be intersted what you think of my own merfolk, Aralune

I admit, she isn't my best mermaid...... I wanted to do a mermaid that seemed traditional, but also more fish like......I guess doing one of my merrows would have been a better choice. I know I could have done a better job, I'm sorry that you weren't satisfied........

Its not so much about me being satisfied. I just think that anyone, and I personally don't have the confidence to attempt something like this myself, is going to make a guide on how to draw something "well," which is admittedly relative, or "correct" that it is a bit ironic that it seems to lack basic elements of art, that's all. I think if you just experimented a bit with even just a little shading, it would take your pieces to a new level.

Well the reason why I did this was because I felt that there were too many mermaid art pieces that looked like they were inspired by the Disney film, and that some artists weren't taking inspiration from other sources of mermaid art and media. What first sparked my urge to do this guide was another artist's tutorial on how to draw centaurs. He/she did such a good job on the male guide, that I wanted to do something similar. As for shading, that was never really my strong suit.....>_< I have been so used to more simple colored art and animations all my life.........

Hmmm....very peculiar looking. They certainly have a unique feel to them.
