Description For the "Onslaught at Arda I" adventure book in FFG's "Star Wars: Age of Rebellion" RPG. Looking up various photo references of terrorist attacks like 9/11 and the Boston Marathon bombing left a sour taste in my mouth with this piece. But even though this is set in a fictional universe, I hope the resulting image does emotional justice to the tragedy of events that happen like this all the time throughout the world. It's one of the few times where, in addition to just making a cool piece of Star Wars art, I really strove to imbue the piece with some emotional weight. At least for me anyway.

Β And the Imperial pigs can't understand why people rebel, instead of just swearing loyalty? And they call the Alliance to Restore the Republic terrorists!

Β And don't feel bad about using 9/11 and the Boston Marathon Bombing as references. This just show's the Empire's true colors as thugs and fascists pigs, whose rule didn't end soon enough.

Β You just know that the Rebellion used the aftermath of the attack to counter the Empire's propaganda.

The empire never care about order, all they want is power and in the end it costed them.Β

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a reminder that the Imperials of Star Wars are villains, a tyranny that has brought nothing but fear and ruin across the galaxy.Β

The imperials kept being given the 'Draco in leather pants' treatment...

Thanks! Yeah it does kind of have an old world feeling to it. Of course, not that WW2 is really THAT old.

Nice work Jake! I didn't tell that this was Star Wars art at first because the architecture seems so similar to that found on 20th Century Earth.Β  Then I spotted the TIE Bomber and was like "Hey what?Β  Oh no, the Empire is attacking!"Β  Then I saw the droid and it fell into place, ha ha.Β

Usually Star Wars has weird futuristic/alien architecture (and usually they are in space, it is after all Star Wars) so it is funny to see such familiar looking buildings in a Star Wars painting...

Thanks! Yeah I really wanted to go for more of an old world feel with the architecture like you might see on Naboo or something. It just helps give the environment more of a sense of lasting culture.
