Since the majority of you voted for magic effects in my latest poll, here's your tutorial. I might do a separate lightning, lighting effects tutorial, but at least this demonstrates the basics of how I do the magic effects in the comic. I realize I didn't go much into gradient and brush modes in this, but this is a good introduction for you to mess around with it on your own.
