Description
When the full picture is kept from you, things will inevitably deteriorate, but then that's what they wanted. This photo is about most of this year, about someone I loved and lost because of a jealous evil.
I've wanted to do something about it for a long time, this is one, there will be another, and now that book is 100% closed.
This is my outlet, thanks for watching.

i'm not entirely sure what to make of this one. i see a number of elements and symbols in it. decay, motion, lateral movement. it's full of gritty texture, almost like a semi-abstract. the corner of the sign showing at the right side almost brings it back to reality. the crosshatched marks at right centre are almost like a scar. intriguing piece.

apart from the motional and lateral movement parts, I don't see that.

I'm blown away James dude. The fact that it's personal to you, and has emotion and depth to it just does it for me. The darkness contrasted with the white sign. It's just got everything a picture needs to be perfect.

Most interesting first glance I had.
The sign on the left, keeping it very clean, even with the sunwashed coarse walkway, its clean, clean clean clean.
Bright white, I really can't get by the white sign on the left.
Black and white, gritty, I would love to see a large print version, just to breath in the texture and details, this is fantastic.

You should consider it, even just for yourself, dA prints are rather enduring, amazing prints they have, I have a stock of almost 100 prints at the moment, all from dA.
Only half are framed though, that is the bitch about it, framing pictures sucks.

its powerfull. and i find that the image itself, or rather what you decided to shoot for the image fits the subject matter perfectly. because i know about what you're on about here i can piece it all together very well and it all fits. its a very well composed shot, and im happy for you that you're out of the hole you were in before, m'friend

I always loved b/w shots...Technically I find the cropping excellent..It keeps things hidden and puts me wondering what is there around..
Emotionally the shot is sad and hopefull .. ending things is always sad but new beginings are always a sign of things turning better in the end..
Thank you for sharing this with us, James

I think all that needs to be said has already been, by the rest of these lovely people. Expression comes in many forms, but few are as talented and creative as this.

Not that I have been watching your progress (no no truly no sarcasm there ) ... but a quick glance at the submissions since Despair , and a few of them just imerge out of the rest. Black & white, heavy , too good to have been burnt on chip instead of film.
Light introducing texture and form. Low at the very pavement, with all the subsequent layers weighing it down. Like a structure crushing in its very foundation. The area proportions of the stone surfaces, going in the favour of the upper sombre blocks, explain for this downwards gravitating, illusionary notion.
But most of all... the metal skeleton of the wall... showing through like the insides of a torn tissue, coagulated in filth. ... and then again the horizontal flow of the lines, makes the heavyness appear transitory and bearable.
And it's peculiar that I would come to it the last, when it was the very first thing that made me click for a full view... the undeniable sound of the image. However harsh and impossible, the 3 letters echo from the subconscious GHT ... and it perfectly epitomizes the visual. Dirty, rough, deterioriated, used...
interesting...

One of your best shots. Intimate, and personal.
Unique, and very expressive in its shortness of elements.
Great photo.

That's so awesome James. The darkness of the image is fantastic--especially how the black and white with high contrast looks.
It's great how you notice somethings that people wouldn't even thing twice about looking at it.
Really great James--one of my favorites of yours.

I like the gritty textures in this. A really dark sort of vibe, makes me almost want to go have a wash. I'm also digging the quite narrow crop. The surfaces are glorious in their wet roughness and I love the position of the partial sign.

hmmm...so having difficulty let go. well in a few days it'll be back to 'status quo' but that is not something we're looking at...are we?
i must say i love the sharpness of the snap. the signage, the road, the scratches on the wall...the reason it is b/w...i know they all carry a darn good reason...well to each his own....remember what they say...
if you love someone let them go....
if they come back they love you...
if they dont.....call them up when you're drunk.
tk care. laters.

Its very gritty and emotional just like a relationship can be just parts of another person reviled and you have to imagain what the rest is all about.
I think you captured those feeling very expertly in this photo.
It also make me sad

i like this composition - the lines and squares that exist in it - the grids of lines taht offer up spaces. i also like its dark textures - it does give off a certain mood. the clear dead end is obvious in my take of this i especially love how its long and narrow in composition

I guess the first thing that catches your attention is the sign. You begin to wonder what it says, what the image is on it, if there is an image, or just words, why they put it where they put it. Then you begin to wonder about the rest of the 'wall' or curb, this is only part of a whole, there's parts missing, maybe some more important or interesting parts, but all the parts count, because without this part, there wouldn't be a whole. But then what you see here, may be the whole of what is important.
I guess there's a lot more I can think of to say, it's just getting it out that is the problem.
From a technical point of view, I really can't find anything wrong with this, maybe if it was just the photo, the 'crop' would be a bit too tight.

I know exactly what you're saying. I keep feeling my eyes search over the shot to find a focal point. I keep wanting to know what's beyond the borders. For me, I HATE not knowing what's going on, and that's exactly how your photo makes me feel. good job.
in terms of the shot. this is WAY more gritty than a lot of your other work. perhaps it's the high contrasts with the b&w, which incidentally works really well. the crispness is really well done. i love all the really hard horizontal lines in this. it makes me feel like someone is raking their nails across the photo, leaving marks in frustration, trying to see the whole shot.
one of my favourites of yours, for sure Sir

James,
I am way to "under the influence" to say the right amount of meaningful thing. I guess when I came about t o open my dA watch deviations I wasn't expecting something that was so emotional. Only you know what it all means and only you can close, like you said 100%. Thank you for posting this and making us on your watch a part of what matters to you. You are a great photographer!

The picture:
Love the B & W choice and the strong contrast of hues here. It really brings out the different textures of the composing elements. I presume the sign board was 'cropped' intentionally to ratify the statement of an obstructed view.
The emotions:
Like every feelings, it's very personal, complex and intricate. I certainly don't want to sound clichΓ© by saying that I understand what you are conveying here or how you feel, but sincerely, I do. I hope you know me enough to see that this is not a void statement. It takes strength to close a book... I think you have it, now.
Take care, James.

I really want to give you a proper comment... but I can't.
To me, this is perfect. I love love LOVE dark black and white images with a high contrast. It's divided almost perfectly into thirds. This was meant to be, I swear.
I can imagine lots of people walking passed here, not taking any notice.

I find it hard to critize this because it is an emotional piece, and what it means to you is important, and changing it may take away from what you intended to say with it. That being said, for some reason i think it would look better with tiny rounded corners. I like it.
