hahaa.. it's so predictable that my eyes came straight to this one.
i am becoming increasingly obsessed with shadows and have
put several pieces up this month to that effect.. one that
looks surprising similar to this.
very well done - nice light, tones, floor detail..
gotta love a hard hard black... mmm... nice.

Interesting use of contrasts and deep shadows, here.
Unusual angle too - I like it. I like how annoymous it is.. which I guess is fitting with your title.

I love the anonymity Anonymity is great sometimes, is it not? hmm? HM

I'd give you an advanced critique but I'm just not of the mindset at the moment. I will say that this is maybe one of your grittiest and artistic pieces yet. Lighting, texture, and shadow work are perfect.

I love the sheer enormity of anonyminity to this piece as the textured dark draws us in like well constructed lies and ill advice.
The shadows drill gaping holes into the glaring light perhaps adding a foreboding sensitivity to this, the typical nature of shadows themselves seem significant of deceit and of distortion, weβre all hiding behind somethingβ¦more often then not that something is ourselves.
These people are hiding in their facelessness, just a sea of nameless people in an everyday world.
The light is as loud as a shot in the dark (as loud as a rape to the deaf) as our eyes and indeed the footsteps of those faceless strangers are drawn towards itβ¦ making us question our perception is that which draws us the simple tide and tow of everyday life or is it more then that? Is it the hopeβ¦of a better dayβ¦is it the last resurging call of our dreams?
Hypnotic.
Reminiscence of a calling, some mass hypnosis of normalityβ¦the faceless voids of uniformity. There is an element of surrealism to this piece and yet itβs anchored in some stark reality.
The composition is exquisite.
The use of shadows and play on light is painfully acute.
Itβs almost a tableau of movement frozen so perfect that at first glance itβs hard to tell whether they are still movingβ¦.or will they ever move again.
I love the bleaching clarity of light that seems to strip all detailβ¦.just like everyday life and the rat race strips the little individualism that is left.
An epitome of conformity.
Sorry if this makes no sense, Iβm knackered but simply had to comment. I wish I had more time to say something that makes sense or at least does this piece justice.
I love this picture.

This looks great. The way the shot's taken, with a flashlight type effect. Mysterious and I love those shadows, they go together really well with the pavement; giving the shadows a gravelly look. (if you git it) Very creative work, James.

Oh how light enters the camera, this is amazing considering its digital, I will say digital has better ways of catching drifting ambient light, but this is by far the best example of its dominating presence, the obscure simplicity of the shot warrants a large print, and it so happens you have one for sale too.
;]
details and textures are extroardinary, mixed so well with the shadows and lack of life, what alterations in photoshop if any to get the hard look? The desaturation of the composition is what makes me ask.
awesome dude, very impressive.

James this is absolutelly brilliant!!
God, where to start??
Ok..First, I know i am repeating myself, I love your b/w shots..I believe you are gifted with b/w..
Now..The croped shapes of the people at the upper part of the image is exceptional..The shadows on the floor are so incredible. They have this sense of movement that is giving me the chills.
The angle which is taken from adds to this sense of movement so much!
The lighting is beyond perfect! Looks like the shadows from the sides are embrassing the light in the middle..How amazing is that!?!
I get the sense i am watching a film noir..Yes, absolutelly, like a cropped scene of a movie..
This shot is one of those that always making me think that an exceptional shot doesnt need a lot of things..Only a great photgrapher with a vision like yours!!
Congrats sir!

Very nice shot, good timing. A bit of cropping and a square or a 3:2 format would probably give it a more 'composed' look. [link] [link]

hmm. Certainly not witness1, I think it takes away the dynamics of the entire image and makes it a totally different image. 2 is interesting though, but I prefer it how it is
It would have the right ratio already, but i cropped part of the bottom of the image out

Did u bleach the floor?
and btw all of dat und much much mo is doable in the traditional darkroom creativity factory. ever heared of photograpms? not to mention that the need for PS induced commands dodgeing and burning came from the olden dayz
but seriously... did u whiten the light blast in the middle, coz it's a pitty for the tiles
It's also iritatingly genious that you captured the trio of unsuspecting happen-to-be passer-bys, all in the decisive moment afore steping on their shadow.
What appeals to me the most is the low key reception the image has gotten, since I find it to be among the rare few highlits in the past couple months... at least that I have seen.
When the last fave catches some dust i'll bb

the contrast of dark and light work very well with this photo, it really puts lots of different ideas in my mind.
Those anonymous shadows always following us around.

Now you gotta good shot here, the other verison with the beige bar to the right was a bit off, but this is perfecto! I love the details in the floor, and the details in the shadows, hwo they are stretched in a nice almost radial composition really gives a lot of extra depth to your DOF. I really love the mood set in this shot too, it is overall incredible and I can nto see anything that needs to be changed.

I like how... there's an ambiguity in the atmosphere. I see this as a stage where the spotlight shines on those running into the audience like they are desperately trying to tear down the fourth wall that stops them being static like those caught in the moment. The street and the pavement doesn't look so much like that, but instead as floorboards they're treading doing the same old act night in, night out. Which is a bit like work, I suppose. Really like this one.

Wow what a great atmosphere you've caught there. Really is quite gripping. The long shadows are somewhat sombre and very effective. I like this even if it reminds me of... mornings and going to work...
Oh yeah, a job, you have one now then?
