Description This picture is taken from inside The Monument in London, from the top of which I took this picture:

The Monument stands in Monument Street off Fish Street Hill in the City of London. It was built between 1671 and 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London and to celebrate the rebuilding of the City.

For me this is one of those rare photographs that makes me stop, step back and think about the perspective...I know what I am seeing - but I am not sure of the vantage point. Making me think is the best thing an artist can do - actively engage me in your work; let me see through your mind's eye. And its great to not necessarily have all the answers. Well done!

Beat Takeshi is my favourite Director! He didn't direct battle royale though. Thank god he didn't, because number two is the worst film I have ever seen!

this is nice but i think it could have been better if the light seeping in from the bottom had been brighter, just a touch.

Brilliant composition. It's a cliche'd shot but you've managed to do it very nice. The off-centre focal point is nice, the contrast and the lighting are really appealing too

Congrats!

Like the balance and clever light exchanges... the slight offset of the spiral works well...tell me its not trick of the eye? Wonderful capture perfectly set out :0)

aplying the golden ratio to a 2x3 (35mm) image shows us the rule of 3rds

I'll be brutally honest and say right off the bat that this is a shot which has been done over and over again.

And then I'll say - Why didn't I see this when I first visited your gallery?

And then I'll tell you why I like it so much.

1) The viewpoint - sometimes people will try and off-center the shot which really doesn't work most of the time - I'm glad you're shooting straight down - we've left with the illusion that this spirals downwards forever . . . bwahahahaha . . .
2) The colours - very bleak - just a hint of yellow and brown in there - they really add to the atmosphere and definately set the mood.
3) The lighting. It's perfect! Whenever I've seen these shots they are illuminated and nothing is really left to the imagination - which in some ways defeats the purpose of art. I like how the majority of the photograph is in the shadows - with the light only bringing out the important edges to define shapes, patterns etc. The light plays the biggest part in the creation of the atmosphere here. In a way this photo can be kind of abstract because of the light - does that make sense?

Anyways - I'm very impressed - I feel like a noob for missing this the first time around

Take care man!

falling forever on that downward spiral
drifting, spinning,
no end in sight, and i can't remember begining
flying, swiming,
onward that endless curving path.

um... i guess that proves it's inspiring?

Lookin through your gallery The viewpoint this photograph gives you is a dizzing one, looking straight down! I'm really fond of it, although I have to ask, was this shot done in Manual mode on the powershot, or do you shoot in auto? Lighting in this structure is amazing, and I feel maybe you would have gotten better depth and feel if you turned the exposure down a tad...

Either way, it's a great shot. Favourite
