Description
This is Brian Haw.Some of you may already be familiar with him: for the last five years, he has held a continuous anti-war protest in parliament square. In 2005 The government passed a law stating that all protests within a half-mile zone of Parliament must have authorization from police. This law was created specifically to remove Brian Haw from his vigil; however the courts ruled that since he was there four years prior to the law being passed, he did not require authorization.
The Government deem him a 'security threat'.
On Monday 8th May 2006, the Government won an appeal against that ruling. Additionally, he has been denied permission to appeal against this in the House of Lords.
Right to free speech, anyone?

Damn! The appeal the government got was passed the day I landed in London. Too bad I didn't know the story back then. I went there, saw him, took a picture of one of his signs, but had no idea what was going on. But how could they possibly deny him the permission to conter the appeal? Don't you have something in the constitution to prevent just that? At least, thats the way it is in Canada...
Great pics, by the way! (worth for all your gallery so far )

Was this around the same time Alex Jones protested in front of Parliament for which he got put in a terrorism/troublemaker database?

Your work really touches me.
I photographed this when Brian was sleeping, I think.
He has a lady with him
I'm so so sad to hear they've evicted him.
Suckers.

He is still there, they left some of his signs. He's not allowed to have signs exceeding a certain distance in any direction. Can't remember how far it is.
You can get updates on him at [link]

I've been past him countless times, but I've never had my camera with him.
His banners and other stuff were a bit of an eyesore, but that was the point. I respect the dude and Tony Blair's government lost a bit more sympathy when they removed him.

This story does make me happy that for once the government didn't get there way... but it is one in a million
They shouldn't be letting the wise o'l Bushman near Parliment now that IS a security risk

Living in London, I have seen & read a lot about this over the last few years. It's disgusting, how can this guy be deemed a security risk? It's because the government has got so far detached from the realities of the world that we are in the shit we are in & people like Brian have to protest to draw public attention to it.
Our civil liberties are being eroded in a constant drip, drip of legislation.
Great picture.

You actually got a shot of Brian Haw! The goverment had such an out of proportion hassle over just this very man, one single man. It's really amazing when you measure the means for this, well this is a great shot not only for the subject, but ofcourse the composition and my personal favourite the radient pin "keep my muslim neighbours safe", I'm just going to stop being jelaous of your shots and start drooling instead. love it

Nice portrait of him
Sunday 14 May 2006, 12 noon gathering in solidarity with Brian Haw on parliment square
SHOW SOLIDARITY WITH BRIAN AND TO CELEBRATE HIS ACHIEVEMENT OF SPEAKING OUT 24/7 FOR NEARLY 5 YEARS .Lets all come together to show just how much support he has - that he is not alone!
RISK OF ARREST
There will be some risk of arrest at this gathering if the police decide that a demonstration is taking place. If they decide to call it something else or there are enough media and enough people down there then they may not arrest, but everyone should be forewarned
