Commission forI am not going to lie, this was joyous to work on.
Very rarely I have the chance to mash up two things into a commission, especially two things of which I am a big fan of. I kind of arrived late to the "Steven Universe" party but I think it's one of the best animated shows I've ever watched in a long time, so when Fernin came to me with the idea of making a crossover with Friendship is Magic I didn't even hesitate and said yes to it. It was hard to work on, I won't deny that. There were points at which Photoshop was dragging 1,8GB of RAM while I was working on this (yeah, part of that is because Photoshop is a RAM-Hungry bastard, but it's what I know how to use best, so it can't be helped). In the end I had more fun than suffering with it, and that's exactly what counts.
In the mash up of characters we have Princess Cadence as Rose Quartz, Twilight Sparkle as Pearl, Applejack as Garnet, Pinkie Pie as Amethyst, and Spike as Steven Universe. Deciding which character would be who was the easiest part of the process though, but I'd like to hear what you guys think of our choices. Do you like them? Who would you have put instead? Please let me know in the comments!

While I always see Amethyst as RD and Garnet normally as either a form of Celestia or Zecora, I can see why you went with these choices in particular. And yes, I've made the cast comparison many times over by now - it's basically "what if Spike was the protagonist of pony?"Perhaps it would've been more similar to SU than not. In any case, good job 'ere with them pony poses and faces and fine shading.

First of all, I LOVE My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Steven Universe.Β So thank you for combining these two shows into one.Β And you're right,Β so long as you have more fun creating the piece, any struggles are worth it in the end.Β And with this piece, there is no doubt whatsoever about that.
Secondly, WOW!Β Just wow!Β The characters are well selected, I think.Β Cadence makes a beautiful Rose Quartz.Β She, like Rose, is so loving and beautiful, and her powers focus on love and protection.Β I can see Applejack working as Garnet; both are serious and blunt, but very protective and strong.Β I can imagine Rainbow Dash being Ruby and Fluttershy being Sapphire; one being passionate and strong, and the other calm and insightful.Β Twilight makes almost PERFECT sense being Pearl.Β Both are intelligent, graceful, slender, and, of course,Β obsessed with detail.Β Not to mention Spike is precious to Twilight, just like Steven is precious to Pearl.Β Pinkie's attitude is kind of like Amethyst's, perhaps a bit more playful and sweet, but still, I bet they would make good friends if they ever met.Β And Spike, of course, makes a great Steven.Β They're both fun-loving, friendly, humorous at times, and, when it comes down to it, they would do anything for their friends and family.
The detail and designsΒ are suburb!Β Cadence is breathtaking: those long lashes, the long, curly pink mane, those curvy feathers.Β Each weapons is fitting to their owner: I especially love the balloons on Pinkie's whip and the gloss of Spike's shield.Β And though a little hard to see, the shores of the sea and the heavens above give the scene a senseΒ of fantasy,Β just like the shows the piece represents.Β Quite clever, also, seeing as Steven Universe deals with both Planet Earth and the far-off Gem Homeworld.
I love how the colors hold warmth and coolness.Β Those lovely purples and pinks fill the piece while Applejack's golden yellow gives it a kind of soft glow.Β The values must've taken forever to do; the lights and darks are so well blended and placed, they just make the picture pop!
Thank you so much for taking the time to create this.Β This is fanart at its finest.Β Crossovers are common, but it can be difficult for them to do justice to bothΒ shows andΒ art styles.Β This is one that does its job: the designs are beautiful, the details are painstakingly perfect, the characters are wisely chosen, and not a single inch of the canvas is wasted.
Good luck in all your work.Β You have a beautiful talent.Β If ever you think of doing more with these characters, molded into the world of Steven Universe, I bet they'll be great.Β
