Dotted with thousands of islands, Georgian Bay forms part of a larger body of water called Lake Huron. Lake Huron which is one of five of the Great Lakes is actually the third largest freshwater lake in the world.

Most of the Georgian Bay coastline has been developed and is privately owned, including most of the islands, which are dotted with summer cottages, one of which can be seen in this photo. It can hardly be considered wilderness but there are a number of areas that are protected both at the federal and provincial levels which include Provincial Parks, National Parks and crown land.
