Thanks lots - well, I am loving doing my art but it's not such a good time right now as client work is at an all time low...hoping it will pick up again soon. It goes like this anyway from time to time, so it could be just another temporary blip. A lot of businesses are running out of funds, so can't take on artists as they normally would. It's easier to accept the lows and not fight it, I find. Client work usually pops out of nowhere unexpectedly.

I hope it picks up for you Custom work is great when it comes in.

I have put most of my art endeavours on hold

for now. Working is priority and none of my art would pay the rent lol

I miss it but know that I'll come back to it eventually.

Yes, I am sure it will come back to you. I am going to have to consider getting a normal job again if things don't improve, but hanging in there. Funny how things we love doing change status when they become jobs. I used to love creating music, but once it became a job I became less creative. when the work dried up I let the whole thing go, rather than continuing music in spare time. It's as if out pastimes get associated with being a job, and the when the job goes, the pastime goes with it.

Exactly! I used to love creating jewelry but then we opened the store

and it became a job, a poorly paying, debt-incurring job and now I avoid

making jewelry altogether. I haven't made a piece since we closed it last

Sept.  I figure once I get other things settled and have more time (hahaha)

I will enjoy it again. Painting has always been just a hobby that I love but I

can go without. Photography, even being a novice, is something I adore and

will always make time somewhere for it. I guess, since I know it will never be

a profession, I can enjoy it more

Indeed - keep it as a hobby so it doesn't get corrupted!!!
I remember you saying about your shop. I thought about you saying it last week when I went to a tasty local bakery and it was closed down and empty. Urgh!!

The art is absolutely wonderful...and your rant is spot on IMHO...Whilst I love both my country of birth and country of origin (I am American with Irish roots) I simply detest what our governments are doing...it's the same old, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, regardless of the western continent you call home.  The middle class here in the states has virtually disappeared while the lower class has grown exponentially over the last several decades.  It is near on impossible for families, even just a family of 2, to live on the salary of just one person, and so, when you have a member who is legitimately disabled (with little work history, disability is all of $600 a month, and threatening to decrease even further) you find yourselves living paycheck to paycheck with little or no resources left to save for emergencies.  Yet Congress would lead you to believe that they are looking out for your best interest.  The only interest Congress is interested in is their own (and that of their rich cronies).
Thank you for your rant...It's nice to know there are others who feel the same way...

Thanks OFW!
The cost of living here in the UK is rediculous - I pay £900 per month (including bills) for a one bed annexe on the outskirts of a city in an average neighborhood. that's equivalent to $1400 US. A 2 bed compact apartment costs £150K ($250K US).
These costs are about to go up again. Day to day living is hitting more and more of us, as people are experiencing in America. I think people will get to a point and revolt, though I don't know when. This cost of living is utterly unjustifiable.

Haeth [2013-06-06 03:00:54 +0000 UTC]

I've always found myself to be suspicious of Government in general. Guess it's just my heritage. That said my choice to join the Military wasn't born from a desire to "kill Muslims". Personally I like Islam and even though I'm a Christian myself I see a lot of good in Islam as a Religion. The Bad ones are exactly that though, bad people who do bad things to good people. Even if they have legitimate grievances *and many don't, trust me*, I can hardly sympathize with them any more than I can sympathies with a victim of abuse who turns around and abuses someone else. At that point their just a shit head.

But that's beside my real reason for posting, I have to say I agree with you. The Social Control agenda is in full swing and it's hard to tell the good guys from the bad any more. Big Corporations seems to be funnaling more and more money into the political system. Unions are becoming more and more corrupt and meddlesome with each passing year. The Left and Right wing medias are no longer concerned with facts, but with pushing their respective agendas onto the average citizen like two bickering parents. The deeper and deeper into the system one gets, the more the players start too blur and become indistinguishable from one another. People one once saw and altruists, paragons of human decency, wishing to bring peace and equality too the world take on a sinister tone and ring their hands hungrily as the masses chant their names, holding their hands out before them asking for their slice of bread while their would be masters simply command "Beg."

It's not a matter of Right wing vs Left wing, Capitalist vs Socialist. It's transcended that, as people carrying the banners for both secretly meet and shake hands and congratulate each other for their accomplishments.

Always be suspicious of people who promise freedom, or peace, or success, or tolerance. They rarely, if ever, truly mean it. We slaughtered thousands in the name of Freedom, killed Millions in the name of peace, raped countries of their natural resources in the name of success, and burned cities too the ground in the name of Tolerance.

Lots of very bright orange against very dark. High contrast, allowing me to create plenty of silhouettes, easier than drawing detailed people in daylight.
