Description Front view . A bass wood Renaissance style chest with mahogany stain . Other then cutting the wood to length pretty much everything was done by hand with traditional wood working tools . Including the dove tails and the molding . This was a lot of fun to make ,but it took quite some time to make and carve . I will be showing the finished pictures soon this has been completed for years .

I don't mind if you share my pictures , but please let me know you are and link to here and don't take credit for my work . Mostly I just want to see who and where they get used . Probably an ego thing .

You can buy very small tools .Or if it's some tiny tool I take a piece of drill rod " the same thing drill bits are made from " and heat up the end and hammer it to shape for something like a tiny gouge . Or just use a hand file to shape the end . Honestly I don't think I used anything really small on this .The "chip carving " also called in German "kerbschnitzen " is done with either one knife or two depending on how you learned . I was too cheap to buy two knifes so I just use one .Sorry I can't find how you say it in Italian . The border on the lid and at the top of the columns was just done with one " very sharp " knife . Feel free to ask questions if I'm not clear after all you're doing better then me I don't know and Italian .

The gouge made with a drill bit rod is a very good idea! And I didn't know the technique with 2 knives (I've looked for some photos on google). Probably I should buy a good knife too.
By the way I'm self-taught and not very expert in sculpting, so probably I will ask you some questions, thank you so much!

At first glance at your thunbnail, thought this was a "old "Renaissance" chest, by an old departed artist than someone on here had taken a picture of.lol THEN I saw the before stain and went to the full size photo, really surpised, not "OLD" and really by the artist. and not LARGE. Very well done in traditional form. Love it

I'm not sure what you mean by not large ? If you mean it's not the size of an Italian cassone then you are correct .But bigger then a bread box . This is about 16" high by about 24" wide plus the width of the trim pieces .

Wow, I thought it'd be like ten months. That just shows how out of my depth I am. What'd you think of my art?

Not really my style , I'm a kind of traditional style guy .Like any style art it's all about practice , practice ,practice , combined with experimenting .

Yeah well, I also paint, wirework, draw, and etch but I've been a little slow getting them on the interweb. I'm sure I'd have something you like. What about a water color viking ship that I painted with spit? Just kidding. I only use spit for the last three brush strokes because I was outta water.
