Description A work in progress picture of the lid to bass wood chest that will be mahogany stained . Other then cutting the wood to length pretty much everything was done by hand with traditional wood working tools . Including the dove tails and the molding . This was a lot of fun to make ,but it took quite some time to make and carve .

I don't mind if you share my pictures , but please let me know you are and link to here and don't take credit for my work . Mostly I just want to see who and where they get used . Probably an ego thing .

Excellent work! Have you taken courses on chip carving and wood work or are you self taught from books and trial and error?

Believe it or not I taught myself how to do this stuff .I did a lot of reading and so trial and error . As someone who works with thier hands on a daily basis and who's hobby is how things work/are done/the history of technology not that many errors .But still I just never showed off my pieces that turned out half a**ed which makes my friends think all this is easy to do .Well , I did find chip carving pretty easy and was surprised that some people have a hard time with it .I believe if you are interested in chip carving you will be doing good work in a few weeks .Get Wayne Barton's book "Chip Carving Techniques & Patterns "from the local library . Most in the USA have it . He uses two knifes , I only use one ,just a personal thing .

That border is a bit crazy isn't . Once you get the knack of doing chip-carving it goes fairly quickly , this did take a while . What made it a bit easier is the little line across the wide part of the paisley / ying and yang , that makes it so you are not as likely to be cutting against the grain which would be harder to do . " I have done that since this piece , but it's more badder , XD .
