So, CoffeeAddictedDragon coffeeaddicteddragon.deviantar… is hosting a contest in celebration of the first anniversary of her mer-based YGO fic, Encounter, here on DeviantArt. The submission deadline is tomorrow and I was fortunate enough to finish my three pieces in time. The main rule was that we had to draw three scenes from three of our favorite chapters already written for Encounter. I decided to join because it forced me to practice drawing different characters and digital coloring, and with a deadline to boot. For my first piece, I chose the moment when an angered and frustrated Yami leapt out of the water and screamed at Mahad that his name was Yami (as opposed to Darky, which he'd been called previously).

I sketched it out on paper and then colored it with GIMP. It was the second of the three to be drawn and the first of the three to be colored. This is TECHNICALLY my second time drawing and definitely my first time drawing Mahad (I'm actually really proud of his hair; I am TERRIBLE with drawing long hair and I want to get better). I don't have much practice with drawing backgrounds and I was so done after doing all that grating that I completely gave up on doing anything fancy with the wall and just colored it beigeish. Still not happy with the clothes though (another point in the favor of mers).
