Wow!

My guess is that you got the image from your subconcious, that wonderful realm of dreams and madness; and that you didn't have a specific meaning in mind when you created it.

I do weird, slightly disturbing images that don't make much sense to anyone, even me, (but are open to interpertation) on a regular basis. I suppose it would be interesting to get a pychologist's reaction to them someday.

war and peace have blended into one, such that there is not one without the other ( shown from the air mask) childish playthings and innocence have been forgotten in this increasingly cold world..

Broken dreams, and uncertain future filled with a hidden threat, a prematurely short childhood, paranoia and isolation mixed with social networking, and a lack of individuality in a land ravaged by the greed of consumerism. Or at least, that's what I think it's all about.

Your gallery is filled with easily the MOST inspiring art I've ever seen from a painter in the 21st Century. Wish I saw it sooner.

I see:
A closed system -No input or output from anything but oneself- (recycled breath)
Narcissus (totally consumed by one's reflection)
No outside world besides what's on a monitor or screen
Naive and forever child-like

-
I really think this a a thoughtful work of art, with a lot of truth inside.

society has us so detatched form reality,we often use technology to unite ourselves, whether we believe it works, or not. people are so self obesesed, they lose themselves..

it's the obvious? self-obsession, self-focus, to the extreme degree that you cannot empathize or understand the feelings of others. childish and lonely and self-destructive. including something like deviantart, where we are uploading parts of ourselves and waiting for people to comment about that part of ourself. or waiting for comments on facebook. instead of going to a gallery and enjoying parts of other artists, or having coffee with a friend. lol.

it's easy pz to be self-obsessed nowadays.

This makes me think of how kids are poisioned with the media (all the monitors on the ground and the need for gas masks) and the gun symbolizes how much violence is involved in video games and other media that kids soak in and the feather represents how when we were younger instead of sitting infront of the TV we could go outside and appreciate nature and have fun. and the longing to go back to that (touching hands)

even if im wrong i still love the piece

Gunna take a swing here.
The "moral" of the piece is self consciousness.
The girls represent two halves a person thinks of themself; the destructive or gun side and the creative or feather side. Both are connected at the face, so they are forced to exhale their toxic carbon dioxide into eachother. After too long, there will be no oxygen left for them to inhale and they will both die. There hands are touching gently, which gives off a feeling of regret/sorrow in the sense that neither of them wants to do toxify the other, but are being forced to by the restraints of the gas mask.
This cycle of struggle is relatable to the inner struggle of self consciousness/confidence because you may think of yourself one way (the feather side) while others see you another way (the gun side). This judgement made by others clouds (toxifys;gas masks) your mind with confusion and stress until it's unbearable (the inevitable death caused by the gas masks).

And while all of this is occuring, you dont pay any attention to the world around you and it becomes a wasteland of who you used to be.

Oh, and sort of forgot a part.
The sort of belly bump represents a new life (assuming theyre pregnant) that could be had if a balance can be made between the two states of mind, but if no resolution can be found then there is no hope at a second chance.

I think that this might speak to the loss of individuality in the me generation. Everyone wanting to look like a bit of a barbie doll thus the same figure/clothes/barbie doll apperance but really not getting to the heart (thus the missing faces). In addition think that perhaps the gas masks have something to do with media and how our visions of reality are being purified by each other via such technological communication as wiki, facebook, and well DA - a seeking of purified understanding in some way. The feathers perhaps speak of the two sides of our moral behavior - our insubstantial moral fibre and our recourse to violence as a way to settle issues. I probably sound like a huge jerk, but tell me if I'm way off or hitting on something, please!

nyahchan [2010-12-10 00:00:08 +0000 UTC]

Ok, here's my guess.
These twins are the scales encountered after death in Egyptian mythology.
One holds the feather (of truth, I think?) and the other holds a gun.
It is said that when you die, you will be escorted by one of the gods to the scales. One will hold a feather, and your heart will be placed in the other. If our heart weighs heavier than the feather, then you will be sent to hell. It has something to do with karma, if your heart is heavy with guilt or not.
Maybe the gun signifies that nobody really has a heart anymore. Just.. gun hearts. No, but maybe it represents our desensitization?
Around them, there is nothing but material that means nothing.
Also, the gas masks represent our... Unsafe, unclean air? We destroyed the earth?

It's an interesting picture.

The thing goes something like this (It was the first association i got.),...i generalized it as a theory i could say ,... a man is blinded by the image of himself being presented to the world (connection of two parts of a human one the actual human, the second a reflection of the world, which he ought to be), where therefore he only sees himself, who he tries to create in the way he wishes, (that indicates the feather). But because of the modern overuse of technology, which distracts him from the wish he tries to reach, he is unsuccessful and he tries to end his life (pistol)...

And the final message is coming from the stare, which i get as a sort of a warning.

...what do you think?

The battle within yourself. A child fighting to keep their innocence yet being surrounded by the ideals of society and the violence it brings, loses their childhood.

Lovely piece. Very thought provoking.

i Dont know the full meaning of this piece but in my opinion it seems that one girl is for creativity ( the feather ) compared to the girl with the gun which seems to represent war/ and battle and the army. possibly the toys on the ground represent getting rid of your childhood to choose a path for the future. idk. my opinion on it. great work either way

I'm going to try to guess, so i'm not going to look at the other comments until after I post this one. (:
It looks like the Pen and the "Sword" are now created equal, one is not mightier then the other any more. Or perhaps both are considered as toxic as the envirinment they are surrounded in. The girls, as they grow up, have lost thier childhood, inocence is lost as the toys and old apple computers and such are burried in the waste of thier envirnoment. the masks connect the sisters, and take away any personal indentifiers- also lost with the pen and sword being created equal and the lost of innocence and fruitful enviroment.

I love your art becuase it makes us think. There's always depth and a story being told.

Another visual to point out is the pattern on the dresses. The question mark theme could suggest some things: perhaps the point of this piece is to be a riddle in the first place. Maybe even to remain unanswered?

The fact that you asked us to guess will only melt my brain.

Sick* piece, though!

*sick is good.

It's a different take on the pen vs. the sword, except the two are connected, and the pen is replaced with a quill and the sword replaced with a gun. The connected gas masks show how the two (writing and fighting) are related, as well as the internal struggle between action and being passive. The littered ground is what results from the conflict. An excellent image and concept.

This might sound weird... but my first take on the picture is that its related to abortions. The ladies seem to have rounded tummies, the feather could symbolize pro life and the gun could represent the abortion side.
Haha as for the mask, perhaps its connecting the women, as a symbol that its the same woman, but the image is showing the different choices she can make? ... I dunno!! Haha! Like I said, it might be weird, but that was my first impression.
