Description
A Vray render of the M12G1 Light Anti-Armor Vehicle "Gauss Warthog" featured in the Halo series. This model was aimed for game-engines, landing on 12016 triangles. It took me about 2 days to build while texturing took about 4 days. References were captured from the game Halo Reach's "Theater" mod, which were very helpful during this project.Software I used: Autodesk Maya 2011 - Adobe Photoshop CS4 - Vray

You know as someone who is personally very weak at texturing its awesome to see your final product along with the maps and the base mesh. Its the little things like this that help others learn. Excellent work!

That's grate to hear. I will definitely keep showing my models in this if it helps

Beautiful work, once again. Great stuff, man. Though I must say, you put huge poly densities in the strangest places sometimes...

Thanks you Helio. When it comes to poly densities I'm quite confident that it's almost exact to the original (haven't seen it in actual wireframe, so I'm not 100% sure). Any special areas you thought of?

I think mostly it's just the little nubbins and things that get to me. Like the two handles on the front hood, I understand, because they pop out of the surface so much, but the two little buttons right above the tail lights on the rear bumper? Not sure why those aren't normal mapped instead.
Yeah, don't remember, but I think the Reach warthog has been extracted. Dunno, I haven't kept up with the halomods community in quite some time, but I've seen Reach models here and there. Like I said, though, beautiful work, looks spot on to the Reach model, but you could definitely optimize a few thousand polys there if you felt like it.

You really got an eye for detail, witch i appreciate. I thought about making those details in the normal map instead, but like you mentioned, those are actually standing out (On the original)so they had to be modeled. But it would be interesting to compare it to the original if there is one out their on the the net

Thanks! I feel like if you've been doing 3D long enough, you have to have an eye for details like those. Comes with the territory and all.
Yeah, I mean, if you checked some reference and they were definitely standing out and not normal mapped, then I suppose you probably did it right. When looking at Halo models, I'm usually used to Halo 2/3 era models, and I keep forgetting that Reach models typically have 3 or 4 times as large a poly budget, so they tend to model a lot more details like those. I'll let you know if I run into the Reach warthog, but like I said, it's been a while since I've kept up on extraction business.

You're totally right. Reach, compared to Halo 3 is probably 3 times the poly-budget. But in someway I like the Warthog in Halo 3 more, and that one is normalmaped the shit out of. And please do, it would be an honor to touch the original
