Description The third in a pile of commissions I did for a client. With this piece, the client asked me to draw puppeteer Frank Oz (as he looked around the late 70's/early 80's) puppeteering Yoda and Aughra, and having all three question the similarity in voices. As a fan of the puppeteer and his characters, this was a joy to create!

Technically, in the filming for "The Dark Crystal", as Frank Oz did the puppetry for Aughra, he used more of a Miss Piggy voice before it would be dubbed over.

Or for that matter Fozzie or Animal.

This is a joy to see. The funny thing is that as I read it I can hear all of their voices asking this question. It's comical and very well done. It's definitely a favorite of mine!

I'm glad your customer was happy, but they actually dubbed Aughra with an actress because she sounded too much like Yoda.

I rea~~~lly like this rendition of Yoda. That may be random, but a lot of drawings of Yoda just don't...seem to catch the right look somehow? This one does.

Billie Whitelaw [link] voiced Aughra in the finished film but whatever i have waited sooo long for a pic with both yoda and Aughra in it and this is AMAZING thank you

You're absolutely right, and I knew that when I was commissioned to draw this. However, the commissioner requested I draw Frank performing both his characters (Frank performed her while Billie voiced her)asked for this specific dialogue when I drew it.

If you listen to the DVD extras you can here him doing Augra's lines. Β He really doesn't sound like Yoda. Β  Miss Piggy, on the other hand,....

I totally agree. Unfortunately, the fellow who commissioned this pieces wanted this dialogue specifically, with the way the characters are speaking it. I would have written something completely different.

Frank Oz definitely has a distinctive voice- even as that brief role in "An American Werewolf in London" he sounded that way

Frank Oz ruled my childhood with Yoda, Aughra and his other Muppet voices (esp. Miss Piggy). He also had a funny guest role in The Blues Brothers as the officer who gives Jake back his possessions on his release from Joliet prison, including the used rubber held up with his pencil. Awesome tribute to a puppet genius not only with Jim Henson, but also in his own right.

I love this! Frank Oz really is amazing! But yeah, his voice is pretty recognizable. Great artwork; the puppets and Frank look just perfect!

Interestingly enough, they got an actress to dub the voice of Aughra - before that, she sounded like Miss Piggy!
