Description Episode 5.

I finally got to draw Vazh, the most voluptuous member of the Gorch clan and, in my opinion, the most sexy female Muppet ever. That's right, I said ever. Deal with it, Janice.

I know some (if not many) of these gags are obscure, but I hope Muppet fans will get the punchline to this one. I've wanted to draw that particular character forever, and when I finally sat down to do it, I found him surprisingly hard to re-create.

EDIT 12/15/09: At least a year since I drew this original piece, I was looking at it and felt I could do a better job on that last panel. So I sat down and re-drew it, substituting Gary Coleman for the far more Muppet-appropriate Paul Williams, and opting for more of a close-up show of the action than the previous wide-screen image provided. I don't know how many people are even looking at this piece these days, but if anyone is a fan of it, hopefully they'll take note of the change I've made and see that it's better now!

Sorry, the sexiest Muppet ever is Zondra (Jim Henson Hour). xP

Much appreciated! Sometimes I feel I draw this strip all for myself, so it's nice when someone else enjoys it as well!

This one reads hilariously, but your snap to Janice was the icing. ;>

Thank you! Much as I KNOW Janice is the sexiest mainstage Muppet (i.e. a Muppet known to the general populace), as far as the lesser know or altogether forgotten sexy Muppets go, Vazh takes the cake and then some!

Janice does have the sexy pseudo-manvoice though...

Yeah, this was a gag that I'd wanted to do before any of the others, but I wanted to work up to it. Glad you like it!

"he sold it to buy the other one back...." Now that's gold writing!

I don't think I've ever seen Vazh in all the Muppet-related shows I've seen, but I admit she's quite....well designed. I do remember the blue guy in the third panel. Wasn't he an early version of Cookie Monster? (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

JayFosgitt In reply to QwertyChris [2008-10-02 13:59:45 +0000 UTC]

Y'know, I used to think the blue guy was a Cookie Monster Prototype back in the day. What he IS is a character referred to by many Muppet fans is the "Beautiful Day" Monster, called such because he first appeared in a sketch on The Ed Sullivan Show where a little girl chimes about how it's such a beautiful day, to which the monster responds by shooting a bird, causing it to rain, and smashing a flower. Me, I prefer to think of the monster as the "Got Anything Cheaper" monster, from a Muppet Show sketch he was in where Paul Williams tries to sell him the most discounted ticket to travel available, and the monster always asks "Got anything cheaper?" That's when Paul smashes him flat with a huge weight and sends him through the mail. Funny stuff!

I appreciate that you like my writing. I get plenty of kind words about my art, but it's rare when I hear something about my writing, and it feels good. Thanks!

and yet, even that flat he was still taller than paul williams.

Anytime. The one lacking talent these days in both comics and, mainly, animated shows is clever, solid writing. Your work is something different, for nostalgic feel and clever humour, and it's a real shame your works aren't available overseas. The only "good" comics we get in the UK are either Marvel and/or Mangas - been a long, long time since we've seen bumper collections of Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry (Oscar Martin) editions up for grabs.

Really? That's very interesting! I'd have figured Lonney Tunes Comics would be readily available over in the UK. Couldn't you special order anything, or would it cost to much? When my graphic novel DEAD DUCK comes out in November of 2009, I'm hoping to have it available in the UK. I'll talk to my publisher and see if we ship over there, but I would imagine you could order my book and have it sent to wherever you are!

QwertyChris In reply to JayFosgitt [2008-10-02 15:24:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, from what I can tell, the Looney Tunes/Tom and Jerry magazines have more puzzles, recipes and pull-out posters than the actual comics themselves! Guess it's thanks to the stupid UK Education board to suck all the fun out of these characters to use only for learning themes. The Tom and Jerry mags have excluded the Oscar Martin stories altogether replacing them with rhyming "adventures" drawn by someone else. Looney Tunes is pretty hit-and-miss and just as bogged down with puzzles and games as T&J, although if I ever come across a story drawn by David Alvarez or written by Earl Kress, I'll snap it up.

And if I ever earn enough personal cash, I'll see about opening up an online account and snap up a few of your works. Seems like the Internet is the only place nowadays to discover the best works and revisit old favourites as well...

I get the punchline! That was one of my favorite "Muppet Show" skits, too!

I've only read about these Gorch skits, haven't seen 'em firsthand, but if Vazh is anywhere near as cool as she looks here, I'll have to give 'em a look!

I think Vazh is the best designed female Muppet ever, honestly, Janice being a very close second!
