Description
My 6th installment of my semi-regular and TOTALLY non-Henson-endorsed Muppet comic strip. I've been really caught up with working on Dead Duck lately, which should explain why it took so long between Gorch 5 and 6.This is obviously another variation of my old stock haircut gag. But y'know, if the gag fits, wear it. And this gag literally unfolded on the page as I drew it, working from no script or previous idea whatsoever.
And I know I said this comic would feature primarily obscure or forgotten Muppets (which the Gorch characters are in spades), but I figured Zoot's line at the end was obscure enough to pass my criteria. If you're reading this and saying, "What the hell does his pants have to do with Janice's hair?", the gag is that they're eating hallucinogenic brownies and that Zoot's so baked that his response is appropriately random. Plus, it's a classic Zoot line, his funniest ever, in my opinion, from The Great Muppet Caper.
FOZZIE: Wax lips?
ZOOT: I just had 'em.
DR. TEETH: Maybe they're in your other pants.
ZOOT: I don't HAVE no other pants.
Hilarity abounds.

Sat.Night Live had 12 episodes about the land of Gorch (from the rotting forest, to the stagnant mud-flats. ) Then the crew hung around the studio looking for work. At one point, one suggested that they appear on Sesame Street, but was told that Sesame Street was a family show. Their adult humor would not work.

Ya' ever wonder if Hyde and Donna' from 'That Seventies Show' were based off of Zoot and Janice?

They're his special brownies. It's Hyde's secret recipe.

I could never really picture Janice being a "druggie" hippie like Zoot is,but great reference to the mop-hair she has.

I'm with you. I never could picture any of them as hard core drug users. But just for the sake of this gag, I lightly played with it. And besides, everyone likes brownies!

I mean Zoot always seems a little spaced-out,so maybe he kinda likes hash in a way. People always make that joke too, including when "Robot Chicken" did that 'Behind the Music' parody about the Electric Mayhem(sadly, they never mentioned Lips).

I don't have no other pants is a line I use whenever someone mentions that I left something in my other pants. (which, considering how scatterbrained I can be is unfortunately often) it's the crack about belushi's sock draw that zings over my head.

Thanks! That Belushi line was a last minute decision. The original line was going to be "Why's this mop head smell like patchouli?" But then I decided the Gorch characters needed to zing Belushi any chance they got because he gave them such a hard time on the show.

Speaking of the Electric Mayhem: Sgt. Floyd Pepper always reminded me of Dr. Johnny Fever from WKRP in Cincinnati.

Oh my God.
This one was so awesome. Improvving comic plots is bomb esp. when it's pulled off well. And I must say that the latter applies for this.
U have a genius brain.

So I'm assuming "Manah Manah" still draws a crowd. Hey, I'd be there. Can't imagine what his groupies would be like, though. Great work.

I think it WAS Disney, but now I'm not so sure since Disney and the Henson Org. never really sealed the deal between themselves(thank god?).

well i did some research, Disney DID acquire some characters and some rights in 2004, but official relases to certain series(Muppet Babies) is still unmentioned in terms of official release.
