Description Some of you may recognize this piece. I first posted this back in 2010 fourpanelhero.deviantart.com/a… , a commission for a regular client and friend. I had never seen an episode of Doctor Who at that time, so I had to do a crash course in the characters in their world. I thought I hit all the key points, and the client was very happy. But then this piece started circulating around the internet, on all sorts of Doctor Who fan sites, threads and blogs, and one criticism dogged me at every web portal--I had Amy pond refer to him as "Doctor Who", rather than "The Doctor". Fans completely disregarded my art and my writing in favor of dwelling on this one mistake. So this wound up becoming one of my most popular pieces, for all the wrong reasons.

Jump ahead to three weeks ago. During the "Guardians of the Galaxy" panel at Comic Con, actress Karen Gillan (who played Amy Pond on "Doctor Who") removed her wig to show that she went bald for her role in the Guardians movie. I immediately felt like I predicted that would happen three years earlier, even though I was just making a joke! Evidently, the entirety of Doctor Who fandom saw the connection as well, and attention focused again on my cartoon and its glaring error.

I decided it was a good comic, mistake or not, and I aimed to put things right. I went back in and changed the name to "Doctor". I also tweaked some other things--I changed the term "pharmacy" to "chemist", since that's what they call pharmacies in England (thanks to a sharp-eyed British fan who caught that one). I also gave The Doctor his familiar red bow tie, which I'd previous had black. I even removed the previous "Doctor Who" logo I'd used in favor of the more modern version used these days. Lastly, I did some minor tweaks to lines and colors, just to polish 'er up a bit.

I'm making prints of this cartoon and selling them at Fan Expo in Toronto. If you always liked this cartoon but were irked by the errors, then come and buy the updated version, which should put Doctor Who fans' minds at ease and allow them to enjoy the art and humor. And for those who still have a problem with the cartoon, keep it to yourself. This piece ain't gettin' no more changes.

I just realized that this is actually eerily prophetic, considering what the actress who played pond didΒ for her Guardians of the Galaxy role.

Toronto, eh? Β Despite living in Toronto, I'll be missing you. Β I don't think I've gone to a media con of any sort since 1974 or 5.

This remains an extremely excellent piece of art, with a very amusing joke. And you really should feel as if you predicted Karen Gillan's new hairstyle!

Haha, that's a good joke. I love your quirky cartoony style, really fits the comic(because it's, well, uh, a comic), I don't normally like cartoony art too much, but this was really cool as a whole. All I can say is, good comic.Β

Well mistakes or no, it's still a funny gag sir And it's a double edged sword with something like this...on the one hand, yea there were 'continuity' errors, for lack off a better term so fans would take notice. Β On the other hand, it was for a COMMISSION for someone else and THEY were HAPPY with it, so the rest of the world can kindly bugger off. Β You don't like it, then make your own damn cartoon.

But I'd do the same as you sir, just to make things right in the universe...even for my own piece fo mind ^_^

That's just too awesome in and of itself, having it circulate across the net. Β Hopefully the fans weren't being TOO harsh, and just trying to be helpful with their observations. ^_^

The thing is, it wasn't a spoonful of sugar with a spoonful of vinegar--it was mostly just vinegar. If you go back to the original post, you'll find far more posts that hammer away at "The Doctor/Doctor Who" issue that any that at least compliment the art, if not the writing. It's the same way with my Britney Spears caricature that I drew way back in 2007--I still get the odd hate mail from ravenous Britney fans. I wish our society would finally open up to the idea that if you don't like something, just avoid it. Instead, we're all inclined to put in our two cents, which rapidly grows into five bucks and change.Β

Meh you should carry babies around with you and when folks complain you bite the face off of one and spit it out, eating babies will make folks fear and respect you and they taste good with Bar B Que sauce

I wouldn't worry about it I can see your point though making something and seeing people dwell on a mistake instead of praising the art and hard work you've put into drawing it,I think it's just a matter of doctor who fans being nitpicky when it comes to inaccuracies they have to point it out because it has to be right you wont believe how mad some of em can get if you say something wrong about the show some just have to correct you about it

Nice tribute to the good Doctor, no matter how tortured the back story is. Β I didn't watch Dr. Who very much, but my Dad was addicted to it during the 1970's, and my Mom watched this Doctor regularly.Β

It was a commission as you mention, i mean people can't expect that it will be true to the show it's just a comic strip making fun of one of the characters and really getting pissed because you add Dr. Who then the Doctor orΒ  pharmacy to Chemist it shows that people don't have much to do in their lives just to act bitter and go nuts on something that's just pointless.

I remember i made a comic strip parody of Garfield and someone pointed out the bubble talk at the end where Garfield has a semi- normal bubble talk yet complains it was a bubble talk and Garfield can't talk..........jeez.....not like i'm Jim Davis.....

Overall this is a nice work as usualΒ  and always laugh and enjoy watching how you make girls lose their hair and get bald in a very clever way that's just funny.
