Description
Spock rules.New Star Trek film is awesome.
I can now do the Spock hands and I'm stupidly proud (and everyone seems to think I'm a nutter. They're probably right).
Oh, about the picture;
In pencil (but I thought that was kinda obvious).
Of Spock (who is owned by who ever owns Star Trek, if it was me I think someone might have told me by now).
Oh noes! *crys* I'm sorry!! I didn't mean to do something so sad...I think this picture might go with my on-going story (which you can read on DA but it only has one part up so far)......don't worry! He's not dead....just....er......painting the floor green until someone comes to rescue him.
I took this picture pretty seriously so anything you can tell me to improve would be very helpful. Also, can anyone tell me how to make it bigger?
......Live long and prosper. (
EDIT-
P.S. Don't even ask why the hell he's not wearing any shoes......

This is rather impressive!
Spock's anatomy is drawn well and in proportion, especially his hands and feet. They look very realistic.
Also, I quite like the way you've drawn his mouth. It's interesting. It looks like a drawing style which is a combination of realism and cartoony distortion - similar to my comic drawing style, I think!
The folds on his clothes make them look more interesting, but they don't look quite as realistic as they could. They look more like pencil marks than folds. Maybe closer observation of how clothes fold would help you recreate it on paper.
(Still, I can't talk. I've never been very good at drawing realistic folds on clothes - probably because I don't observe real clothes closely enough.)
You drew quite good perspective here. Spock's hands and feet really do appear closer to me than his head. However, the perspective with his left leg could have been better. It looks like you tried very hard on it, but I think Spock's upper leg should have been drawn a bit longer, judging from the angle we seem to be looking at him from. (unless his left leg's being propped up by something. Then it would make sense.)
I'm very grateful for the soft shadow you've drawn around Spock. Not only does it make the picture look more interesting, but it also gives it more emotional depth. If there had been nothing but a plain white background behind Spock, the overall image would probably have looked quite stark and cold. The shadow makes the image look softer, and more gentle, which makes it easier for me to feel sad for Spock.
The blood is quite well drawn. The seperate patches of it on the ground make it look like Spock was staggering or crawling along, with the blood streaming out of his wound, and now he's only just collapsed onto his back.
The pools of blood which are closer to the left edge of this picture look a lot like pencil scribbles. However, I like that! It means I have to use my imagination to see them as pools of blood, and that gives them quite a bit of charm. The fact that they look so much like what they really are - pencil marks - reminds me that all pencil drawings are just marks of graphite on paper, which we interpret as something BEYOND just marks of graphite - a picture! It makes the pencil marks seem like they have some kind of magic property.
As for how to make the image bigger.... well, there might be better methods than this, but...
...When I made my first deviation, I had it scanned and saved as a jpeg file on my computer, and then I opened it in the program called Microsoft Paint. I then adjusted the image's size by clicking on the "Image" menu at the top, and then clicking on "Resize/Skew". In that menu, you can make the image bigger by typing in the text boxes under the title "Resize" - both "Horizontal" and "Vertical". For example, if you wanted to make the image twice as big, you'd type in "200%" in the text box next to "Horizontal" - and in the text box next to "Vertical" - and click "OK". Or, if you wanted to shrink the image to half its current size, you'd type in "50%" in the text box next to "Horizontal" - and in the text box next to "Vertical" - and click "OK".
(It's important that you type in the same percentage in both the text boxes, otherwise only one dimension of the image will be lengthened/shortened, and you'd streeeeetch the image out of its original proportions. Still, if you do that, you can always just quickly resize the other dimension and set it right - or just click "Undo".)
Of course, if you wanted the image to look bigger on deviantART when you upload it here, you could choose for it to be presented with a wider "Fullview size" when you're submitting it. Or, even if you've already submitted it, you can make it bigger by editing it. You go to your deviation, click on the little icon on its left which says "Edit deviation", and when you're in the "Submit Art" section, you select a wider fullview size. I notice that, at the moment that I'm typing this, this deviation has a fullview size which is 600 pixels wide, but it can be wider. 800 pixels wide, 900 pixels wide, all the way up to 1280 pixels wide.
You might already know all this, so sorry if it sounds like I'm patronising you. I'm only trying to help.

Thank you so much for this!! It truthfully does mean a lot to me that you used your time and gave me a very well balanced review; itβs extremely helpful and it makes me happy
.
Iβm very glad that you understood the βhalf realism- half cartoonyβ approach- I wasnβt sure if many people would get that; I really wanted to try it out- I don't usually seem to have a specific style with my pictures but if I had to have a recognisable one I think that would be it (and I'm sure I'm not the only one who uses it, some people just don't get it; they think I've gotten confused when I've actually done it on purpose!).
Hmmmβ¦β¦I see what you mean about the folding in the clothing, it seems to lack depth somewhat, next time I should try to shade around the folds instead of just using generic lines.
The feet and hands were quite hard. I always manage to struggle on them for some reason no matter how much I practise!!
About the left leg- this picture was to accompany a story I am writing and the leg is meant to appear broken/ at an odd angle.
Hehehehe~~~ ^^ βemotional depthβ I like that youβre incredibly talented at writing art reviews you know! I think you could do it for a living!!
Donβt worry, you didnβt sound like you were being patronising and I did find that exceptionally helpful! Iβve made it bigger now.

I'm not going to ask. I know it's acoz I STOLE HIS DARN SHOESIES!
I think this is very good, the proportions are about right, but maybe you can concentrate on the face if you're going for more realism?

jazzledoodle In reply to Insanityforever [2009-06-04 19:19:08 +0000 UTC]

BECAUSE I thought when he wakes up, he won't want his feet to be hot, coz then they would smell, and it would be EWWW.
ALSO I have keeped them safe so people who don't like him don't steal his shoesies!

I bet he was going to say something else but then he reasoned that children might be watching.
In one Star Trek episode they went to an alternate realitly or something (like you do....) and they were all evil, and Spock had a beard!! THE HORROR!!
(which proves that beards are evil)

oh of course, alternate realities. In fact, there is one behind the enterprise fridge.
YES beards are evil. But invisible/imaginary beards (for chin stroking and such) are useful.
