Description
A young soldier with a small arsenal, looks like she heard something!Drawn for no other reason than to get back into drawing finished pieces. I'd been so busy at work recently when I got home I had very little energy or drive to finish any art. This is the first of many pictures I've been sketching and working on, but haven't finished yet. I don't even know if this one is really done, feel free to give me any feedback you feel necessary on it.

As to why her pants are undone, makes it more comfortable to sleep but you DO NOT want to take them off. See earlier comment about her boots. Mr Average is right about the SVD (Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova), it is hefty, specially for someone with a small build.

Well it weighs less than 10 pounds normally, and she's not exactly scrawny. As for her pants, she could have been about to take them off to party with one of her squad-mates, but your explanation sounds good too.

Very well done! Great use of lighting and shadows. Really interesting expression! From a "professional" stand point: Weapons nicely done, though most would expect the SVD (Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova) sniper rifle she is holding would have a scope. If the threat is close in, the AK-47 would be a better choice. I do like the knife handle sticking out from under her "pillow" Bonus points. Down side: She needs full length covering on her legs. I'm going to give her benefit of the doubt and say she was in the midst of changing her socks and hadn't had time to put her boots back on yet. If she is in country, like it appears she is, she had better not be thinking of sleeping with her boots off. I'd make her walk back to base without them if I caught her doing that.

Well, this isn't in a modern setting. I was thinking more post-apoc, or guerrilla themed, where she's familiar with military tactics, but things are pretty lax. Which is why she's sleeping by a lit fire, and has her boots off. The scope might have gotten broken on her SVD, and the clothes she's wearing might be the only outfit she's got. Of course, we'll never get to ask her, since she was eaten by a bug the size of a Buick three minutes after this scene.

Not sure if there's a tactical reason for wearing toeless socks on the battlefield but it's a cool outfit design! Excellent work on the weapon details and lighting. I wonder what she's fighting for...

Hmm, better traction if/when running without your boots on? And I did come up with a little story for her; she's ne of the original resistance members on Earth after the formation of the Empire, hiding out in one of the many ruined cities across the globe.

The only Nit Pik is the Dragunov is over sized in scale
She would never be able to put that to her shoulder
and reach the trigger
Also, did the scope fall off ? (it's a sniper weapon)

Um, what? Look at the gun in relation to her, she could easily shoulder it. And the scope is removable on pretty much any rifle, it could have been smashed in combat or discarded due to damage. Dragunovs have integral sights as well, and a trained marksman can be plenty deadly without a scope.

I like how it's such a graceful pose but the circumstances that she's in makes it slightly strange to say that she's in a pretty pose. Her expressions looks pretty but then with that big gun, well I wouldn't want to be on the barrel side of that gun. I love it!

She's staying calm under the threat of potential danger, it's the sign of a good soldier. Too many movies show soldier simply cracking and panicking, when that's usually far from the truth.

I've been using (forever, really) a sketching technique I learned from my dad when I was a kid. I might try recording one of my drawings, to show just how I do it.

It doesn't have a scope, but it has the sites that a Dragunov or AK-type gun comes with. The rear one is just forward of the receiver cover. [link]

Hmm, in real life I'm sure they come in all sizes. Also, this could be a post-apocalyptic scenario, she could be a merc, a pirate, a ranger or scout. Or just a lot of attitude in a small package.

Nice illustration - I especially like the linework.
Only thing is that a Dragunov SR weighs upwards of 14 pounds fully loaded - swinging a rifle like that to bear is not easy. She'd have been better off grabbing the knife I see under her bedroll there. Still, I wish we'd had more ladies like this when I was in the service.

I like the fact that she's a little scraggly, beatup and unkempt as opposed to being amazingly good looking and perfectly clean 24/7. Always struck me as unrealistic in the movies and comic books and whatnot, that people in very messy warzones could be so...pristine.
I totally know how you feel, I managed to find a summer job and after hours of cleaning the school it's hard to get any motivation to do art.

Yeah, I like a girl who isn't always in perfect condition. I might be ridiculously busy again in the future, but I feel less drained as of now. Hopefully I'll keep this groove and stay productive!
