Description In all the MST3K fan art I've done so far, I usually limit it to Joel/Mike and the bots. I figured I need to make up for lost time, so here's my take on some additional cast members. It can also serve as an introduction to the human cast for those who've never seen the show before (admit it, that's some of you). Left to right:

- Joel Robinson (Joel Hodgson): The first captive aboard the Satellite of Love from 1989 to 1993. Built the robots out of found objects around the ship. Required by the mad scientists to present a new invention every week with the invention exchange. Made it back to Earth in an escape pod found in a box of hamdingers. Former roadie for Man Or Astro-Man; currently owns a hot fish shop in Osseo.
- Mike Nelson (Michael J. Nelson): The second captive aboard the Satellite of Love from 1993 to 1999. A bit more dopey than Joel, and constantly devising escape plans that never worked. Accomplished in the theater and musical arts, and doesn't look half bad in a sailor suit. Currently lives in a Minnesota apartment with Crow and Servo.
- Dr. Clayton Forrester (Trace Beaulieu): Mad scientist in charge of the movie-watching experiment from 1989 to 1996. Esoteric yet domineering. Got the white streak in his hair after being struck by lightning, apparently. Eventually became a star child a la "2001".
- TV's Frank (Frank Conniff): Forrester's hapless sidekick from 1990 to 1995. Cheerful and goofy, he formerly worked as a fry cook at Arby's. Forrester killed him a lot. Assumed into Second Banana Heaven by the white angel Torgo; currently collecting the souls of the departed as a Soultaker.
- Dr. Laurence Erhardt (Josh Elvis Weinstein): Forrester's assistant from 1989 to 1990. Just as mad as Forrester, if not a little more demented. Had a really annoying voice. Disappeared under mysterious circumstances; believed to be eaten by the titular character in Bert I. Gordon's "Earth vs. the Spider".
- Pearl Forrester (Mary Jo Pehl): Came to oversee her son's experiment from 1995 to 1996; took over experiment from 1997 to 1999. Ended up turning the tables on Clay, making him the tortured sidekick. Vowed to do things right the second time after Clay became a star child; ended up smothering him to death. Cryogenically frozen, then thawed out in 2525 and declared Lawgiver in a world where apes evolved from men. Currently dictator-for-life of Qatar.

More to come, of course...

Joel was always a quiet one with jokes.

And then every so often, he'd blow the roof off, which just made it even funnier 'cause he's the last guy in the theater you'd ever expect to scream at the top of his lungs. "DO SOMETHING! GOD!"

Isn't that Crow that does that?

No, but Crow has that great line at the end, "'Crew'? They had a crew?! I do not believe they had a crew." (To which Joel responds "Okay, everybody pick out someone you wanna punch.")

Dr. Erhardt reminds me of that guy Tiny from the game show "Fun House". Except with a creepy ponytail.

So THAT'S what happened to Joel? I've been watching the series through random episodes on Youtube, so I figured they just retconned the story and replaced him with Mike. I also wasn't aware that they eventually escaped! THIS IS GOOD NEWS. Thank you for educating me and for gracing my eyes with your art! Dr. Clayton Forrester is my favorite here.

If you're looking for Joel's escape episode, it's 512 "Mitchell". It's available on DVD from Rhino, too!

Say...! I really dig this portrayal of the cast--particularly Joel's sleepy-eyed look. Nice to see Dr. Erhardt in there (even though I'm more of a TV's Frank fan...)--alas, poor Larry, we hardly knew ye.

God I love those guys more than is probably healthy for a grown man. Wonderful pic that really captures the character of the individuals depicted.

I guess I can see a resemblance. My stuff is a bit more rounded, though, and I don't use such heavy outlines. Still, his work is pretty cool.

"I crap bigger than this film!"

"Crow, I know where you're going with this--and just stop."

I reeeeeally wish they'd release "Outlaw" and "Alien from LA" to DVD. I had them downloaded on my old computer, but lost the files, so it's actually something I'd be willing to pay legitimately for.

Looks quite nice. And I always wondered whatever happened to Josh Weinstein, since he simply dropped out of sight after the show's first season, and even the MST3K Info Club's episode guide (which looks as if it hadn't been updated since 2000) had no explanation as to what happened which prompted his replacement by Frank Conniff as TV's Frank, who was admittedly NOT my favourite co-henchman to Dr. Clayton Forrester. I'll always like Dr. Laurel Earhardt better than TV's Frank. It's just like how I always hated Prof. Bobo in Season 8, but don't really mind the Observer (up until they dumbed down the character)

I like to believe the theory that Dr. F somehow transported Dr. E directly into "Earth vs. the Spider". That way, the guy who got eaten didn't just look like him - it probably was him ("No, Dr. Erhardt, no!...So that's what happened to him!")

As for J. Elvis Weinstein himself, he's off living it up in Hollywood - he created the short-lived series "Freaks and Geeks", and he currently writes for "America's Funniest Home Videos" along with his former MST3K costar Trace Beaulieu.

I like your style and a great picture of the human cast! It's always great to see another Mistie!
You may already know this that Nelson, Murphy, and Corbett went on to do this: [link]

It's still good to see these guys!

Dude, awesome! You got everybody's expressions right...(shouldn't Mike be a bit taller than Joel, though?) I also love how you did Larry's ponytail, heh. I think the two of us are like the _only_ two MST3K fans (that I know of) who would consider drawing that character...

Anyway, it's really cute. Everybody is totally in character, it's interesting to see Pearl in her _first_ look instead of the "Lawgiver" one, and Frank is just...Frank, what can I say. One _teensy_ quibble..I think Mike should be taller than Joel. But that's it. In general, I love it!

...Notorious

I never noticed much of a height discrepancy between Joel and Mike (and I don't have a fan copy of "Soultaker" handy to check, unfortunately), so I'll just take your word for it. Thanks for suggesting that I post these, by the way.

I was always a huge fan of TV's Frank. I think it was because he reminded me of my Jr. High art teacher all the way down to the Converse.

I LOVE this!
