Description Furthering my countdown of my top 25 "Mystery Science Theater 3000" episodes, I present another Season 6 classic. Number 14 is what very well might be the most boring murder mystery ever, 603 "The Dead Talk Back"!

Synopsis, from the MST3K Amazing Colossal Episode Guide:
"Dumb. There's a loser named Henry Krasker working on ways to talk to people after they're dead, probably because no one will talk to him while they're alive. (Whoo! Good one!) He lives in a rooming house with a bunch of other losers, and one of the women is killed with a crossbow. With Krasker and a cop named Lewis sharing narration duties, everybody connected with the rooming house is questioned interminably. They're all so depressing, you wouldn't be surprised if any of them were the killer, but it's impossible to care. Anyway, there's a fake sΓ©ance at the end with a friend of the murder victim pretending to be her come back to life, and some guy confesses. So the dead never do talk. It's just a real dumb movie."

I loved the one detective who was all "By thunder, this job'd be much easier if I were allowed to threaten and physically abuse suspects regardless of proof or how tangentially connected they are to the case!" Surprised he never shook down the two boys for info.

I still think that the guy from Ancient Aliens looks just like this guy.

I love the jangly chase scene, somehow a guy with his pants pulled up to his shoulders nearly outruns a policeman, I just don't get it.. ' eh, STOP IN THE NAME OF EDDIE DEEZEN!'

I love this movie, because it promises supernatural happenings all OVER the place at first... and nothing supernatural EVER happens. What a let down! XD

My favorite lines:
Some guy (name escpaes me): I write and give lectures!
Mike: And I wait tables!
Interrogater: But who buys your Talent?
Servo: I had a story in Highlights!

Oh, I love this episode! That was the episode where Crow did that long guitar solo, right!

Yes, in a loving tribute to Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead ("And then the moon came out and it was like Jerry willed it, man..."). Personally, those guitar solo bits are among my favorite host segments from Season 6.

"Calling from a phone booth? STOP THAT!!"

Wow, you've made Krasker look really sophisticated! If he looked that cool in the movie, it would've been more to watch!

A dumb and rather painfully boring movie. How is it that mst3k's most boring movies end up being their most popular work? (IE like Manos, this movie, and Pod People.) Probably because they "hurt so good." The basement dwelling dork here is clearly my favorite character i nthe movie; though I also liked that chance sequence involving the persurer flying like a cartoon character. XD

A childs introduction to jazz....toot toot toot...toot.

Oh man this would be way higher on my list at least in the top ten. I think that Krasker was one of the most memorable characters they ever encountered with his muffiny hair and his horrible voice.

Little did jbwarner know that when he drew this picture he had only thirty more minutes .........to live.

There are tons of episodes on YouTube, if you want to catch up (this episode is among those that have been uploaded, if I'm not mistaken).

The only likable character in this filmwas the overzealous preacher who believes everything is the work of the devil, and even he made me feel like ripping my hair out.

Actually, I thought Krasker himself was a pretty cool character (even though Paul Chaplin, who wrote the ACEG summary above, obviously disagrees). Yeah, he's kind of a geek, but he did catch the killer, after all.

Mike: There's a stool floating behind me? Damn, I somehow missed the toilet!

"Big deal. My stools float..."

(Although in all honesty, I think Mike's "Thank you, The Dead" is the funnier floating stool-related riff in that scene.)
