This is a diagram pointing out specific details on all the major designs King Dedede has had in the past. Hopefully, this will help when you want to draw a specific design! I tried drawing them as close as I could to get them right. But I don't think my crappy art style did them justice..Which design is your favorite? For me, it has to be Super Star/Modern. I love the choice of colors, and the tan shirt really makes him stand out!
One of my pet peeves though, is when people draw Dedede, they color the top of his belly tan, but under the belt he's blue. Like, where's his pants?XD

The modern and Smash are my faves. And as of Star Allies, Dedede has a shirt, but it's not like the Smash one. It looks like a cotton shirt. Also, I think his "belt" is actually a design sewn into the shirt.

This is a really good analysis, and I think you portrayed Dedede's designs throughout the years very well! This would make a very good reference sheet, especially if you were going to draw a specific Dedede or wanted to try out the many different designs he went through. I think your style looks really good here- it makes the analysis look very professional while still adding your own personal touch to it
As for my favorite, it'll always stand between KDL3 and 64 ^^

5) The original: Hey it's the first one so it took them time to see what he was gonna be.
4) Anime version: I think this is the design where the modern Dedede starts to take form. Aesthetically and in personality. (Sort of) However the dull, gritty colors in his design don't look as good as his current soft and vibrant colors. (Art Specific easter egg. This design has a more malicious, mischievous glare which the other Dedede's do not share. Goes well with his personality in the anime and the other Dedede's don't share this personality trait.)
3) 64 version (Dreamland 2 and 3 are basically the same design as this one): This is the most bird (Penguin) like appearance of the king. (He looks more akin to a duck in future designs.) It is also the most unique design of the bunch.Β (Art specific easter egg: This design is the only one who's eyes do not shift to the right but stay straight forward and looks kind of sad eyed, which also doesn't help considering this is also the only design that does not smirk in this artwork like the others.)
2) Modern version: I think this is the best design for the king and it really fits with the Kirby art style and theme. (However this design became more prevalent in Kirby Super Star Ultra and not the original Kirby Super Star in facial style. Clothing style however, it is the same and was probably the rough template of what modern Dedede will look like.)
1) Smash bros: A more detailed version of the modern games design. This was most likely the final basis for his modern game design. (Post brawl.) Brawl being the best of the Smash Bros designs. Smash Wii U/3ds being the most expressive and detailed due to improved graphics.

Ah, the many sides of D. Your artstyle did them all justice I'd say. I never took the time to notice exactly what changes are made, so this is pretty neat to see. Especially intriguing seeing classic's face was different.
I'd go with Smash Bros. But I do like the 64 version highly as well. It's different in a charming way.

Huh. I thought just the exact opposite. I guess I just liked his demeanor in that game.
