Thank you!
The response for these has indeed been great, the gallery recently requested several more.

Holidays? well... hehe... Somehow I don't realize they are here.... New years eve is just around the corner and I have no feeling at all that it is. Probably because of the lack of snow or something.
You enjoying the holidays?

Really? I though that was the purpose...? In general I have a hard time saying no to an opportunity for having fun and being happy

Hmmm... the way I see it the main purpose is to get drunk At least amongst the youth
But of course... one can only embrace the chance of being able to have fun and be happy!

Beautiful. This was an awesome gesture for their clients. Interesting to see the color on one of his pieces. It definitely brings a different twist to his work.

it was fun to see Jeff get into the paint issue. He really doesn't like to work with glazes anymore because of the chems, so acrylic is not a bad way to go since he doesn't do functional anyway

Acrylic is a great idea for non-functional. Obviously I don't have any issue with non-functional work.
I get frustrated with glazes too, but for different reasons. I seem to ruin anything I put a glaze on. It crazy to me that I can control atmospheric firings better than I can get a predictable glaze in an electric kiln to do what I want it to do.

Hey Lisa,
After a longer discussion with Jeff, I wanted to make sure I didn't misrepresent his views Really, he just doesn't like the process of glazing, mostly the applying itself and the unpredictability of the results. Quote: "if I wanted to work with glass, I'd be a #%@ glass-blower" I know I know, you like to work with glass
Also, glazing is not compatible with burnishing and smoking...which in his case goes to cone 012.
Mostly Jeff wanted to make sure it didn't sound like he thinks of acrylic as an alternative to glaze, which of course it isn't.

LOL. I appreciate your writing me back, but you can ensure Jeff I took all of it the way he intended. I completely understand how he feels, I'm horrible about applying glazes. It is my least favorite part and had me very discouraged until I stumbled onto alternative firing processes. His glass quote makes me laugh... I like to work with glass, but that still doesn't help me like glazes anymore.
I like the acrylics as an alternative on this piece, but understand that it is not an alternative.
Most of my pieces are burnished and smoke fired (kinda) like Jeff's. We fire to about the same cone.

Dude. I have to say that I appriciate the texture in the background. How'd he do that without breaking the little connecting lines between cells?

JeffMargolin In reply to Frost-indri [2007-12-28 16:25:35 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I was wondering that myself when I first saw the pieces. I still can't believe he made 20...
Jeff said that the lines helped the paint pool correctly and give it that Sycamore-like dark edges around the different colors. And yeah--pretty steady hands for a guy who claims to be a klutz

And thats why I'm asking how in the HELL did he get cells like that? I'm just seriously impressed that there's no breakage in the lines.
