Sometimes people ask me why I use such insanely meticulous and yet unnecessary measurements. The reason? Well, although I personally don't need to measure so incredibly carefully, it's not only extremely beneficial knowing the exact location (hence allowing me to make more accurate estimates), but because it's for your benefit as well.
I've seen a lot of tutorials that gave a nice explanation, but still forced me to estimate the distances and sizes. Those tutorials, while somewhat helpful, didn't allow me to improve my anatomy at all. I always wished there was some kind of exact comparison, some kind of exact tutorial, for me to use.
Now that I'm older and able to take measurements to myself, I used six different hands and studied them in order to come up with an approximate average. Although hands differ from person to person, understanding this approximate average would've helped me a lot in my earlier days. Since I can't find any tutorial with exact measurements, I can only make one myself.
EDIT: Wow! I never would have expected over 1000 favorites! Thanks folks

Wow, this is a very useful and in depth- tutorial. Don't worry about being "too meticulous" when it comes to tutorials there really is no such thing. As someone who has always struggled with drawing hands I can definitely see myself looking back to this as a reference.

Hello, here's your requested critique from #CritiCentrum !
Negatives
- Honestly I don't see ANYTHING I seriously have critique on. The explaination, the lay-out, the drawn examples, everything looks just fine; great even! One thing I'd say is that it sure is a lot of text, some people might not even bother reading it since it's so much, and go with just looking at the examples. Making the most important parts bold would be helpfull for the people who don't bother reading everything; bold text grabs the attention and so even these people will read the most important which are needed for drawing certain parts.
Positives
- To start with I was really glad to read how you used several hands to come up with these measurements, and how you also mentioned not every hand is/could be like this. People might start thinking drawing every hand goes like this so it's a good thing that you've mentioned right at the start that it's not.
- Nice, clean lay-out, the text is readable and a nice font is used. The text and pictures are placed in a nice way next to eachother, and it's clear which example belongs with which text.
- You clearly have a lot of knowledge about drawing hand and you are VERY good at drawing them aswell. This also shows in the examples and the tips and tricks on how to draw them. Especially the measurements is a great tip, most tutorials I've read don't mention much about it, while it's a quite important part.
So to sum it op, you've made a really great, good looking and very helpfull tutorial. It has a lot of text though, so making the important parts bold, underlined, etc would help to make it able to do not have to read everything. (In case a lazy person reads it haha.) I hope this was hepfull despite I couldn't give much critique Thank you for submitting to !

Thanks for your support. I tend to ramble on my explanations so maybe I'll try using broken sentences?
