Description

This is the first in a 3-part Series of tutorials I wil be making on the sbject of Gallery CSS making. I will also be making a Journal CSS series in the future. I hope you enjoy!

Part 1: The Basics of Coding

This covers the very beginning of coding a Gallery skin. You do not need any prior CSS or HTML knowledge. If you think I could have improved on it, please let me know.

Part 2: Let's Get Graphic!  (Coming Soon!)

This will cover the steps I go through to make simple but awesome journal images. No painting or artistic experience will be needed. I will be using Photoshop Elements, but will be happy to assist GIMP users with any differences in the process. GIMP and Photoshop can do many of the same things.

Part 3: Snazz Up Your CSS! (Coming Soon!)

In this part I will cover how to add the graphics into your CSS and add more coding elements, as well.

Thank you so much!
I had tried to do CSS once but it gave me a headache because I just couldn't get it to look like I wanted it to. But with this tutorial I might give it another go. Thanks for sharing!

I used your tutorial here xavs-pixels.deviantart.com/gal… except I added an image. Except I'm having a problem with the image trying to repeat on the side even though have it set to no-repeat. Do you have any tips on how to fix the coding to get image to not repeat in any way?

Thanks for using my tutorial! Your skins looks fantastic on my end! I didn't notice a repeating image - which one is it?

I used it here xavs-pixels.deviantart.com/gal… and if you look on the left and right, the border starts repeating. But if you still don't see it, then maybe it might be because my screen is bigger.

The gold border? Yes, I see what you are talking about. If you would send the code in a note, I may be able to tweak it for you.

No question about it.  You're an As soon as I get some time I'm going to try this for sure.  Now just to wish for a way of changing the background colour of my profile pages LOL

I can't stand this wishy washy 'almost green' that we're forced to endure and it sounds as if you don't either

Aw, thank you, May! When I have a little less on my art plate, I'll add more parts to the series.

I can't stand that awful color on my page! If they would let us change the featured folder, it's be great! I have found a workaround for most of the widget pages, but I have resorted to mostly custom boxes on my page because it is easier.

I used to belong to a forum long ago and we could choose our own colours even back then.  But it was a small forum and dA is probably about 10,000 times bigger (at least!) lol

Thank you for sharing but the Codes look so complicated.
I usually used Sta.sh for my journals but it is so unstable!

Also, if there is anything in particular that doesn't make sense, please let me know. My goal is to make coding your skin as easy as it can be.

Thank you so much for your kind offer.
I am afraid it is hopeless for me, the coding system is like a language and I must know the basis to understand it.

You are most welcome! No one is ever hopeless, as far as I am concerned, so if you ever change your mind, do please let me know.

I know, it is complicated at first.  My skin took so much time the first time I tried, since I am the typo queen. The great thing is, once you have a working code, You can keep using it with copy and paste, and just making adjustments to it. That helps to make it your own. And I know what you mean with Sta.sh - it is very annoying.
