Description
A bit of a follow up to my last illustration, "The Sapling", another picture featuring the Celtic goddess, Druantia. There's not too much information about her, but she's credited as being "Queen of the Druids" and being closely concerned with oak trees. Still growing through a bit of an Arthur Rackham phase I suppose, but that coloring style does work for me, letting me play up the line work. Anyway, any comments welcome!Pen and Ink on Paper, colored in Photoshop

Love this! The expressions of the Druantia and the oak tree are great fun! This style looks great. I love all the linework. Your design of this goddess is really cool.

Thanks! Costume-wise she's basically straight up Druid. Physically the idea was simply to make her very appealing without straying into hyper "Disney" skinny or over built Amazon, but she also needed to have an eccentric look in her eye (as do all who hail from the realm of Faerie).

Beautiful work on the soft colouring and the detailing on the old oak's bark, I love how you did the shading

I'm glad you enjoy it and the color came out well. I'm a black and white guy and color is something In know I need to use more often, but boy it's foreign to me.

You're welcome! Oh I've been there trust me, I still kind of prefer to leave things greyscale if I can, but I had this major phase once of being afraid to use colour for fear of not picking the right ones

Well, luckily photoshop gets the best of both worlds, have black and white and color. Though I've been experimenting with using colored pencil on top of my original pen drawings (using them instead of watercolor) and I think I'm on to something there.

Exactly, though really I find that traditional medium sometimes has a lot more character and personality than digital, but adding pencil colour on top is an interesting idea

I agree, totally! But digital coloring for me for the time being, it's great practice.
