Description
Part four of my series, and good grief, I am ecstatic that it's finally done. Well...done, I really mean I found a stopping point. THIS one was getting a bit out of hand and was taking much longer to get finished then it needed to, and then it was getting to the point where more detail added, not much benefit and yeah. In the future I will plan these things out a bit better and go for more drastic contrasts I think. But, I'm happy it's done, I'm quite happy with a good chunk of it, the woman for instance (goes to show my male love of curvy girls with hips...let's just say I can understand where Rubens and Boucher come from) and the dragon too for the most part I think does it's job nicely, based to a large degree on the John Howe genus of drakes. Yeah, I think it conveys all it needs to, and on to the next where we meet our hero, Sir Gawain! (and where I'll probably have a rant about how much greater Gawain is than Lancelot) Comments welcome!Pen and Ink on Bristol Board

Nice! I think each one of these gets better. I see your point about wanting more dramatic contrast...it's a definitely a learning process to include this amazing detail, and still make each element stand out as distinct.
Her facial expression is great by the way. And you do a nice job with little details, like the hands...they are especially good.

Thanks, I worry about hands quite a bit, I have a habit of making fingers quite chunky (particularly unfortunate on a woman). Of course, most of my figures end up having various incarnations of my left hand so...yeah. I'm actually pretty pleased with the heroine's hands, the way they're scrunched up due to the rope came out pretty well and her expression actually wasn't as hard to pull off as I thought it would be, honestly I'm pretty proud of her whole figure over all, especially the torso which I think came out with a real sense of gravity and plasticity...oh boy, I'm taking apart my own picture, how horribly egotistical....anyway....thank you for the compliments! My originals, by the way, aren't large, I work currently on smooth 11''x14'' Bristol Board, though I've been thinking about going to a slightly rougher hot press watercolor paper or pastel paper so I can start adding some color physically instead of in photoshop, also I want to start experimenting with different colored papers. Color isn't where my talent lies so I "experiment" with great trepidation. I'm limited size-wise right now though mostly due to the need to be a bit mobile (I end up having to work on these things in bookstores, breakrooms and campus cafeterias waiting for my finance' as much as in my studio) and because I live in a small one bedroom apartment storage is an issue. I feel no need to work big, though, but I would like to eventually size up to 18"x24" which is what i used to work on way back in art school.

Such an amazing, astounding, enthralling, captivating, and so very beautiful job! The detailing here is so very brilliant and so elegant. I especially like the foreground as well the expressions and postures of these two people.
Well done~!

So many compliments! Thank you very much. I'm glad you find it elegant, I think elegance is one area where pen and ink can really dominate as a pictorial medium, just look at some the black and white works of Arthur Rackham if you want to see some truly great line work (the color works too, of course, but in some cases you have to look hard because his watercolor can get pretty dark and dense at times). I saw some of the work you posted and I think you've got a pretty neat style, can't wait to see how you develop it more.

Why, no problem at all, my good sir.
Well, I never thought of it that way at all as you state pen and ink being that of elegance. (I shall have to look up this Arthur Rackham; I thank you at this suggestion. )
Thank you so very much, as well, for the kind words. I greatly appreciate it.

Absolutely, and check out an artist named Gustave Dore' as well, he worked with metal etching and wood engraving and made some of the most amazing black and white images I've ever seen.

Ummm...I can't count ladies and gentlemen...this is part THREE of my series, part FOUR is coming soon...needless to say I got a "C" in my college course, "Applied Mathematics"...though if we're honest it was Pre-Algebra...or even more honest...Remedial Mathematics. For those of you who don't use the A B C ranking system let's just say I passed with a perfectably acceptable grade that doesn't exactly mark you out as a talent in that field. Got a C once in my drawing course too actually, but that was because it took so long for me to finish anything....I'm not exactly improved on that front admittedly, but my drawings haven't gotten muuuuuuch better since then.
