My darkness... Roses of blood dance in raven hair, pallid flesh moves with smooth seduction. Ethereal and unreal, shadow given flesh and form. Each night my sins come back to haunt me...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've watched sin city one too many times. This was one of a couple of experiements in a limited palette. Nothing but every shade of cool grey, black, white and a red pencil.
Edit: because someone asked, this was done with prismacolor pencils on black cardstock.
I truly enjoyed looking at, and studying this picture n_n
The colors you have used, limited,but still not, makes the picture very pleasing to the eyes. It is soft and one cannot take their eyes from it. It soothes the mind, and makes one think.
What has thins poor person done to deserve this kind of emotions and feelings?
I see this character as a woman, a very sad one. It could be a male, but something about the picture and the character's serenity tell me something else. The blue tones of her skin are very pale, too pale for a living person to have, but still, I see her as a living creation. Maybe it is her mind which has colored her skin uin such a pale and dull color?
Somehow, when seeing all of the colors together, the black, the blue, the white, and then the red. A strong, bright, rich and deep red, making me think of passion and happiness. It could also symbolize blood and passion, and along with the other colors, also sadness. Both of the statements may be true, but I see it like there is a burning hope and desire, hidden deeply within this character even though its back is turned towards the world.
A truly amazing picture which touched me deeply. I hope you do not think I over analyzed it, but I simply typed down what I felt and what thoughts I came up with when looking at it.
Again, such an amazing piece! It is truly stunning.
I also really like the smoothness of her hair and skin. It is very nice, especially when thinking of that it has been achieved by colored pencils :3
I loove that minimalist palette. It gives her such a ghostly appearance with those sensual tints of red. I love the little details on her belt too.. Dangly clooth! * paws at it* I'm trying to color Siin right now on dark grey paper and I must say that coloring white skin is frickin HAARD..but looks oh so shiny when you get it done.
Sin City REALLY made me despise yellow even more than I already doXD creepy yellow...goblin dude...*shudders*
JessicaMDouglas In reply to AngelaSasser [2005-09-23 02:59:46 +0000 UTC]
you know... I still do'nt know who yellow goblin dude was. I mean I guess he was the rapist from the start? But wait a minute, didn't brucey boy 'remove both his weapons' at the begining of the film? So he couldn't do it agian at the end. whooooo was he? I figured everyone out except for him. meh. It's someone painfully obvious too, I just know it.
AngelaSasser In reply to JessicaMDouglas [2005-09-23 03:57:04 +0000 UTC]
The yellow dude was the rapist from the beginning. His father paid for him to have reconstructive surgery on his private parts and that's why they were back again. Cept for all the chemicals from the experimental surgery turned his skin yellow and made him get all nasty, thus the creepy goblin look.
Man I cringed at the 'disarming'. *shudder* And I'm a girlXD
I gotta see that movie again now...
Very interesting...the colors do work very well indeed. I've heard it said that black, white, and red are among the first we learn to see. I don't know how accurate that information is, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true.
The pose does well to complement the title.
I also find it thought-provoking from a cultural standpoint. Interesting how we associate sin with women--and particularly a "deflowered" woman. (Brought to mind by the red flowers in her hair.) Probably I read way too deeply into this, but I like it when something makes me think.
