Description
This one, as you can tell by reading the blurb at the bottom right of the image, has a very serious story behind it. This is a support pic for the horrible, horrible tragedy that has befallen Japan two months back. Yes sirs and madams, we're talking about the twin terrors of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that shook the world. (The triple terrors if you include the nuclear crisis.)Literally. I think it was officially stated that the Earth actually stopped spinning for a second or two. Gotta respect that kind of power.
And you gotta respect the millions of lives that were shattered in the wake of the disasters. This is the kind of thing that will be felt and passed on from generation to generation. This will go down in history as one of the worst natural disasters to ever have happened in the history of mankind. So all of you that are alive today to know of it? Remember it. Don't ever let it go.
And I think I was too heartbroken to work well when I made this image, because it certainly isn't one of my better works. But I felt obliged to share it with you all anyway. I wanted you all to know that I too, felt a little piece of me die on that fateful morning. I may be in the opposite side of the world from where the epic center was, but that didn't stop the dark ripple of shock and sorrow from reaching me.
*Sigh* I did this as a gift to a fellow X9.com member who has family in Japan. I was much more worried for her then I let on, worried enough that I think it effected my sleep. Not surprising I suppose. Anyone would loose sleep after hearing about the earthquake.
The illustration is supposed to show X reaching into a broken down building to help rescue a survivor (The viewer) from the disaster. It's kind of powerful when you think of it, but it's not good enough. I urge all of you who are effected in anyway to show your support, may it be a dollar, a piece of artwork, or a word.
May the Good Lord bless Japan! May the Land of the Rising Sun shine on forever.

it didn't stop spinning. the force actually caused the earth to spin a few nanoseconds faster.
amazing work. I am in awe of how you pulled it off. the lighting is.... what you have called poor quality adds so much character. you say it is inspired by the disastrous state that Japan is in and it is very apparent. it gives the feel that the viewer has just been freed from being buried for a long length of time in the dark and so their eyes aren't adjusting quick enough, therefore everything is hazy as the brilliant light comes flooding in. Don't belittle yourself over this piece. It may not have turned out the way it originally appeared in your mind's eye however the poignancy still remains. The genuine care and concern radiates freely and I'm sure that your friend and all those with ties to Japan were lifted by it.

Wow!
Thank you for the heartfelt comment! That was... I... wow. I'm speechless. Nice to know I was able to get though to someone.
And, I wasn't aware of the fact that the earthquake made the Earth spin faster! Very neat factoid.
